Yesterday I celebrated (so to say) my last day of holiday, by traveling to the East coast of the Garda lake.

I didn't have much time available, so I didn't go up to the Alps like I originally planned. But I could visit two places, Lazise
(so full of German tourists, you could actually hear only German spoken on the streets!) and Torri del Benaco.

To keep my travel diary, with me I had the Contax G2 rangefinder and the 5D with a set of M42 lenses.
I did so because otherwise you would comment "but he's only able to shoot with Contax lenses!" Laughing Wink

I have uploaded the first part of my little travel diary, Lazise.
Please click this link to see the full first part series in Lazise:

And here's a few ones from it, directly on the forum, as introduction:

Oh boy boy. Extremely nice shots all.
I looked at all those photos, love them all.

Flektogon 20/2.8 does well, did you shave 5D's mirror?

Thanks Koji. No problem with the mirror on my 5D, but,
my 5D has the shaved mirror, and I bought the lens after shaving it,
so I can not say about it on an unshaved copy of the camera.

Wow wow wow!
Wonderful shots.
I can just feel the place (right down to the German turists Laughing )
My favorite is the Tour boat. It almost looks like it is moving across the screen.
Your flek is a really nice one.

Thank you Poilu!
It has a little, but it's not easy to see because in the practical walkaround use,
you rarely shoot precisely positioned in the front of something and with the camera at 0 pitch.
If you look at this photo:
http://www.oriofoto.net/temp/LAZISE/slides/05_MG_0861.html
you can spot some barrel alteration, but it is mixed with the slanted perspective
due to me not holding the camera to perfect parallelism.
So it mixes water with wine, so to say, and it gets unnoticed better.

The Flek 4/20 is cleaner (nearly zero distortion) and clearer in the corners; the Flek 2.8/20 is much sharper,
but has some muddy edges wide open.

For edge problems wide open, see:
http://www.oriofoto.net/temp/LAZISE/slides/13_MG_0891.html
http://www.oriofoto.net/temp/LAZISE/slides/11_MG_0889.html

Overall the Flek 4/20 remains my preferred choice for super wide. It has to be said, however,
that it's the extra edge in sharpness of the 2.8/20 that can bring shots like this one to better life:

Thanks Andy. You happen to have picked my favourite one too!
In that shot, the Flek gives a quasi-Contax depth to the image.

Yes, much better than the first copy I tried a couple of years ago.
It's a very different lens from the 4/20!!
Almost hard to believe it derived from it.
They can both find place in a photographer's arsenal. They complete each other.
The Flek 4/20 is perfect for architectural shots. The Flek 2.8/20 gives the images an extra punch.

Thanks Trifox!
You do the counting on the pictures posted in the thread I assume (not on the series)

Very nice set Orio.

The boat for me also. The fog also adds to the picture.

Very nice set indeed, Orio! That first one certainly starts it off nicely! That
40mm Tessar is quite the performer! Of course the Flek 2.8/20 shots are
superb, as well. Thanks for posting!

First shot and the building(castle?) by the water are faves.

Thanks guys. I have to say that at first, when I realized there was a lot of haze on the lake, I was disappointed. But then I realized that what it took away of landscape, it gave back in atmosphere. This one for instance:
http://www.oriofoto.net/temp/LAZISE/slides/07_MG_0872.html
works better thanks to the fading background.

Nice series, Orio. My fav is also the tour boat, but I like all them.
It seems that the 5D is doing a good job on light measuring...
And you too, obviously Wink

Jes.

Orio

Your usual astonishing quality - I am another tour boat fan, but they are all so good. Once spent a vacation above Lake Como which is another of those great lakes in Northern Italy.

BTW ; I would argue that this forum has samples of virtually all the best glass available - between you, Andy, Attila, Klaus etc......

Smile Smile Smile

Love seeing it all

Thanks Jes and Patrick,
I love boat touring also!
When I was a child, I went down the river Po from Cremona to Venice. And I arrived to Venice from the sea! That was spectacular. I still remember it.
Last year, in Budapest, I went on boat on the Danube, from Budapest to Szentendre, and it is one of the nicest memories of that vacation for both of us.
