I really hope this was a good price. Was it? I was surprised to find this lens in m42...though it may just have a Nikon adapter...that would be o.k. too.

Any opinions on the lens?

Well, if you told us what the price was, we could give our opinion Wink

Yes, that was a good price.
I agree to Orio, this lens is really great! (It does not have the typical Russian rugged construction, but it performs very well.)

Your copy is also interesting: Althougth it is a Kaleinar 5H (N=Nikon), it comes with an M42-mount. It might be some kind of custom rebuilt.

It originally comes with both mounts (mine's got the original box). A nice lens, very similar in performance to the excellent 100 2.8 Nikon E series but with the useful built in hood.

If anyone has a spare Nikon mount for this lens I would happily pay a reasonable sum for one.

Perhaps we should swap the mounts. Wink

I've heard the OOF is great from this lens. How are the highlights wide open/stopped down (number of blades?)? Sadly the lens may have been sent to wrong address (home instead of school) so I may not see it in several months.

Just a little side comment, and I mean no disrespect, but Russian and Soviet are not interchangeable terms. While it is correct to refer to this lens as Soviet (at least the ones produced before '91) it is incorrect to refer to it as Russian because the lens is in fact Ukrainian. Most of the former states of the S.U. take offense if they are considered "Russian." I know if you pronounce "Kiev" in the way Russians do, they don't particularly like it. Again I only wanted to inform. Even some experts on the subject seem to interchange the two, but I'm afraid it's just not right.

Thanks in advance
~Marc

If I didn't have the original box complete with all the accessories I'd have considered it, but breaking up the set seems wrong...

I think I could adapt a spare mount to fit a Trioplan fairly easily...
