Is anybody know what year the first issue year from Jupiter-9 85mm f/2 for SLR ? Not for rangefinders! My copy is made in 1965, is anybody has older ? First two digit of serial number contains year of issue.

I really wish to get the oldest as possible, I hope oldest ones made by German people and on original Zeiss machineries, Russian army brought them from Germany after WWII.

Not easy.

"Years of manufacture: there are no exact data" (translation from: http://zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/jupiter-9.html). At least 1962, because there is a picture of a slr-version dated that year.

This catalogue from 1949 shows versions for Kiev and Zorki, surely produced on sonnar machineries from Zeiss - but these are m39-ltm with the wrong working distance:
http://zenit.istra.ru/catalog/catalog-lenses-1949.html

The first zenits with m39-slr mount - and this means the correct working distance 45,2mm - were produced 1952 (take a look at http://www.commiecameras.com). The Kiev had another mount. So I think the first jupiters as accessory lens with slr mount are from the end of the fifties or the beginning sixties.

Hey... that means I have one of the oldest copy.. Mine starts with 62xxx..
It Silver Jup-9 M42....
ah.. no.. not M42.. that used to be M39, the previous owner (literally) cut th old mount and pasted (can see plaster) M42 mount...

wow.. seems like I am collecting antiques... (hoping to) keep coming..

Mine is (in this page list, http://zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/jupiter-9.html)
-> Second one (top) on the right hand side pics (second below the glass diagram).

The design is really weird. More like Industar-50 (50mm f3.5 pancake lens), if you rotate focusing ring, the aperture ring rotates, plus difficult to rotatr aperture ring after focusing, as this may rotate the focusing ring (tight coupling). But who cares, I always use that lens below f4. First fix the aperture, just focus and click....

And how would you like the result ? Compare with latest black MC ?

Have never used Black copy. Silver is great in sharpness, but flares horribly. Needs to be very careful. And it has some different coating, blueish...

They are all great pic. Seems I made good business with this lens.
So I will compare them when I have time, I wasn't satisfied really with black one for portraits, I expect much more from this one.

My Helios-40 is only a few months older than me. But I have a lens that is older than me: a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 2.8/50.
