I would like to show you this sample I took today with the 50D and the Contax Planar 2/135.
I have to warn you before hand: this is quite impressive, so, if you are a sensitive kind, you'd probably better not see it!

Here's the full image resized:

And now the scary part, the full size image. As a link, of course.
The image is 100 ISO and taken hand-held
Open the page at your own risk (let it all load, it's big):

I warned you! Shocked

Geez, Orio, you shouldn't be aiming that camera at the earth! Laughing

Mindboggling to say the least...

Orio! Orio!

I loaded this image onto my wife's 24 inch monitor (that she made me give to her - Laughing ) and as it transformed into the image, my jaw kept dropping, dropping, dropping...until finally I had to get a spatula and pick up my jaw and screw it back in.

InCREDIBLE! The DETAIL, the lack of CA, the relative SHARPNESS and RESOLUTION are all mind-boggling.

Go up and look at the shadow transition in the upper roofline, where the gray meets the peach color. That shadow is FULL of smooth gradient. It's simply remarkable that you are getting this out of a RAW file.

Look at the interstices between the Aloe leaves, where the background detail shows beautiful detail. Notice the faux-granite texture on the top trim of the planter box!

Look at the shadows produced by the flowers, against the body of the planter box.

How about the transitional details and subtle coloration changes in the big drain pipe? Shocked

Finally, go look at the right hand branching of the Aloe, on the upper edge. Even the little spines are showing a gradient...and those are TINY spines, yet there it is!

Are you SURE this isn't medium format?

The Zeiss glass has found a beautiful partner.

Amazing

I couldn't believe this image myself the moment I opened it.

There are many things that impress me, but most of all are the writings on the black rubber cable. They are clear as if I was in front of them. While they were at 15-20 mt distance. And I shot hand held.
Man, if I look closely on that tube, I can see the actual texture of the rubber. Can you think of a more elusive texture than that of an industrial rubber cable?

I am frankly astonished. I was hoping that the 15 Mp could mean more cropping room for me, but I wasn't expecting this quality at enlargement. It is well worth the pain of some caretaking for the noise. With a digital negative like this, you can make any print you wish.

[envy mode on]
What are you all talking about? Why are you all thrilled by such a soft, almost blurry picture with heavy CAs and a terrible distorsion, no details and a resolution similar to my old Jenoptik digicam!
[envy mode off]

Laughing Laughing

Orio, I am truely speechless. I, like poilu, was instantly impressed by the fly, the white print and the little screw!
And yes, colours are great and corner performance is incredible!!

Congratulations, my friend!

Wow! So much awesome detail. This just goes to show why Zeiss is number 1. One thing I would like to see would be how this compares to some of the old Zeiss Jena 135s, which would no doubt be much cheaper to get...
