I put a 50D on preorder

I am impressed by the quality of the in-camera noise reduction.
This is a sample photo taken as RAW and (according to author) only slight processed for chroma noise in Lightroom:

Most of the times, the in-camera NR gives sad results, but in this case, the "smoothing" of the photo is minimal and most detail is preserved (check printing on the bottle), while effectively reducing noise in flat areas very well.

for the 50D, I will pay 967 Euros (after VAT detraction), so it really makes this a no brainer considering the quality of the camera. Just as a comparison, the same shop lists the 40D at 650 Euros (VAT excluded). So for little more than 300 Euros I get 5 MP more, UDMA card compatibility, and DIGIC 4 processor which means faster writing and better high ISO performance.

Btw, can I ask you where did you got your 50D? I also have the infamous Partita IVA Very Happy

, so could be interesting to know if you got the detraction before your purchase.

I think you know the italian ebay seller "Nikon-Discount" is based in Germany, so you can purchase a dslr without payng the Vat added cost, (provided you have a VAT reg. number). Howewer, he sells only Nikon and Sigma cameras. I'll try to ask him for a Canon 50D, maybe...
