Couple of photos from my visits to the local falconry display. Using a new (to me) CZJ Sonnar 135/3.5, very good condition if you ignore the wispy fungus on the front element. Sad It's very slight and I can't see any signs in the photos, hopefully it will clean up nicely.

The Gyr Falcon is the fastest bird on the planet in level flight, it's not easy to capture with an mf lens.

This guy is called 'Cheeky Monkey' Smile

Probably not a piece of cake with most AF setups either.

Congrats on the great pics.

Congrats on the great pics.

Thanks.
When I shot the second photo on Saturday my father was with me, he's up visiting for a week. He was shooting with a 7D (like me) plus the 24-105L f4 and after checking the 300+ shots he took there wasn't a single bird in focus. He was dumbfounded but I believe he was using incorrect AF settings for the occasion.
I own the same AF lens (it's been in the repair shop for 3 months) and I honestly don't think I'll go back to using it to shoot these birds. I get far more satisfaction using MF lenses.

It's the last day of my father's visit so he wanted to try again to get a bird shot in focus Laughing sadly he failed again Rolling Eyes
He was stood right next to me when the Bengal Eagle Owl spotted me and came to say hello, but still my father missed the shot. Confused

I didn't....

Laughing I wish!

Forgot to say I used the CZJ 135/3.5 again, this time at f5.6. It's a wonderful piece of glass. Cool
