Hello,

I apologize if this is the wrong section but I could not find the repair section T.T

Today I took my rokkor to go out and while I was looking at my lens I realised that some weird colours appeared under the front element (noooooo.............)...I didnt notice this before...so I guess it is only few days old...but already so big...

I am really afraid this is a funguns growing (damn it) so I would like your opinion if it is a fungus or not...
If it is a fungus...what can I do? How?

See below a picture I took from the problem.

Thank you...

Starter spoots, if you store lens right, cap off , get enough light and humidity always lover than 50% it will never grow it.

If you not relaxed about it bring your lens to a good repair man in this early stage easy to remove it.

It doesn't look like fungus.
Post a close up picture.

Click on picture, on left side looks cleaning liquid remain spot only. On center small spots , spot with center part looks starter fungus. Center of spot looks like a food for fungus and ring around growing fungus , take a led tourch and a magnifier carefully look it wia magnifiier it looks like cotton that is surely fungus.

In fact the spots in the center are not a fungus. It is just few spec of dust outside the lens. What is worrying me is what is on the left side. This appeared suddenly and it is not cleaning liquid (yes...it does look like a liquid which is drying up) as I don't use such product to clean my lenses (I clean them with eyeglass tissu)

Doesn't look like any fungus I've seen, but it's hard to tell from that pic.

If you are confident with someone who you think can do the job, I suggest that you take it there right away. That is just one of the beauties of using a lens cap though a lot do not fancy that thing.

But even with that, it can not still be avoided but at least you have an extra layer of protection.

Storage on a cool dry place would be good and be sure to keep them dry even if they just get some moist. Not that sure with storage with cap off as I do that with mine and fortunately, have not gotten something life this yet.

Is the front lens a single element or glued? I can't find a diagram for this lens. It looks to me like the kind of thing you might see if liquid seeped between two surfaces.

If the front element is indeed glued then I'd say that this is the beginning of front element separation.

Hello,

I will take the lens to a repairman in Korea. I'll tell you if this is a fungus and if he can do something for my beauty. This do not seem to grow by the way...and I can see this only when there is UV light hiting the glass. If there is no sun...It is like invisible...

Thankyou! So separation is ruled out.

I have a Pentax-M 1.7/50 with very similar-looking patches round the edge. Fungus or not, it's been on my shelf for about 7 years and the patches haven't grown at all.

I have a lens like that too. I'm not sure what causes it.

Look's like a thin layer of something on the coating to me. Not like fungus.
Maybe a litle liquid (rain?) got into the lens and made that.

Once I photographed my girlfriend under the shower with an Minolta MD 50mm F1.4 (I guess similar coatings) and got some water drops on the front lens.
I didn't care much about that, because I never had any serious problems with water stains by rain etc., so I didn't clean it directly.
For some reason some of the drops left very similar strange looking spots on the front lens some days later!

I guess the minerals in the water did somehow interact with the coating and gave those strange looking spots.

Some days later I polished the lens with special lens paper and the coating under one or two bigger spots was visibly damaged/chemically changed (damage looks like bright spots in a mirror lenses "donut" bokeh).

My vote is coating failure. I've had that happen to a couple filters and, in both cases, it causes blurring on the edges more so than without the filters. That said, I'm not sure how much these would impair image quality. Maybe none at all or only imperceptibly?

The lens that had the spots on mine and they were on the edge moving inward is my Minolta QD 135 3.5. I bought it cheap but it was supposed to be mint. Turns out mine had alot of oil on the blades. It also had these spots on the front element.
Yes I said had. They are gone. Shocked Very Happy
Humidity is not a problem in my house. So I had it in the case with the caps on. I just was reading the latest post on this thread and thought I'd pull my lens out to photograph the damage, and to post pics of it.

So I guess mine was moisture related and dried out. The spots on mine looked like the OP's.
