Hi,

I recently bought a Helios M 40 silver. I used it on my Nikon D700 with a M42 ring.

This is one of my first (few) pictures which are not totally out of focus.

1024 pixels on the longest side is always OK Smile

Beautiful portraits, especially the first one. The bokeh is lovely Smile

Thanks Diego.

Actually, I asked her to wear a T-shirt with little flowers to emphasize the swirly bokeh. Wink

Eyes, eyes she have wonderful ones, I look forward more after you get enough practice , this lens can produce very sharp images. If you can catch focus on eyes...

Welcome Isabelle ! Very Happy

Nice shots with the heavy Helios-40. Is this the silver version or the black one ?
Nice first shots.
Your photos on your website are very very good !

Bienvenue à toi.

Very nice!

I wasn't a fan of the siwrly bokeh the first few times I saw it. But since then I've seen it used to good effect, as you did here, and it has grown on me.

Lovely shots. Are the 2 photos taken with f1.4?

PostPosted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 6:06 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Nice images. I take it these were at F1.5?

PostPosted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:38 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Many thanks to all of you. Very Happy

I tried some pictures at f1.5 but it isn't sharp at all. It becomes really better at f2.8. The 2 samples, as far as I remember, have been taken at f2.8 very closed to the child.

My Helios 40 is one of the last silver lenses and it has a M42 mount. It's quite heavy and very sensitive to flare.

I'll try harder this week-end and do my utmost to catch big eyes.

Here are two new samples of the Helios.

#3

Pull over is very sharp, eyes are almost out of focus. My lens seems to had a light front focus.

#4

This one has been taken at full aperture. Just or bokeh lovers or Japanese. Wink

I like the childs picture best , looks like she has a lot on her mind, very mature expression and posture. I think lightening up the background would have helped some-great shot none the less.

The child's pose and expression are brilliant.

It's hard to tell at this size that the focus is slightly off. It's still a great capture.

#4 is pure art. I love it! If you are finding you are missing focus slightly, you may try and adjust your diopter.

Kelly.

Thanks Kelly, Martin and Kathmandu.

Before taking the #3, I made a picture of the background just to check the exposure without focusing. As a result, the photograph is blur but not everywhere. As you can see, the corner are in the focus area whereas the center is totally out of focus. Here is the jpg (f/2) without crop or post treatment.

#3 (making of)

Are you as surprise as I am? Shocked Do this explain the specific bokeh of this lens?

Hello,

This is my last shot taken tonight with the Helios. Thanks to spring time, sun is still shining at bed time for the kids. This picture has been taken just in front of a window, with only natural light.

How wonderful and different take in all of them, clearly not conventional and therefore very interesting. Look forward to more of your work!
