Because I'm looking for the pre-war version of the 75mm Biotar I'm (with great sadness) selling my magnificent near-mint copy of the lens on eBay (starting from EUR 1, no reserve price).

This is such a beauty. I have never seen one with such excellent condition. Did you polish the body to make it so shinny? Laughing

Polishing the lens? I think it would make the lens look worse. But no, it was bought this way and of course you'll see a mark here and there. But indeed, there are not many of this quality around. So buy it and be done with it Smile

Silly idea to sell it, this one have better IQ than pre-war Biotar have. Opposite than your pre-war Primoplan and post-war in my opinion.

I have both pre war and post war and pre war is better imho.

Alessandro, thanks for chiming in. In my experience, and I have used more pre-war glass, I'm always under the impression that the pre-war glass is better. Not by a considerable margin though (definitely not in the case of the Biotar I'm selling); in my case it's just that I like the older lens designs more (this includes the build material: heavy brass and chrome).

huh, all of a sudden you changed your mind? I had in mind that you preferred the pre-war version as being sharper...??

I sincerely didn't make any pixel-peeping test to value sharpness, but the overall rendering (strangely color and contrast overall) is far better than both my two post war ones.

I only have a (near MINT all complete in makers box) pre-war version, so it's hard for me to make a comparison, but that one is darn sharp...

No, I always did prefer slim post war 1951 lens. I think you remember for that. Post war lenses have two version skinny and fat. I know only one pre-war edition.
