Looks like it doesn't help, do I need to remove front element of the lens? :O

Oops, sorry, I meant screw front part of the lens completely, not unscrew.

Can you post a picture of your Cyclop ?
It would help a lot.

There is (at least) 2 type of cyclop 85mm/1.5. The Helios copy (with brown coating), and the non-helios (with bright blue coating). With the last one, you need to unscrew the rear part. Also, if you're using it on Nikon, I think you are using a M42 adapter with glass to reach infinity. In this case, you'll need to trim the rear part. About the other type of cyclop, I don't know, I never had it.

Non Helios cyclop :

And I wanted to say, that I'm using M42 adapter with no glass.

I'm not specialist at all of Nikon, but I thought if you're using Nikon, you can't reach infinity without adapter with glass (for all M42 lenses, not only Cyclop).

Let's wait what other will say. Again, I'm not Nikon specialist, I just know that Nikon mount is problematic with M42 (and not only) to reach infinity. But maybe exist a hint with Cyclop. It's not the version I have, so I can't really help.

Well, many thanks for information!

Thank you.
It's a Helios copy, so, on Canon, as it is shown on your photo it should reach infinity.
I don't have a Nikon, so I don't know for your Nikon.
Maybe Burstmox is right.

Register distance on Nikon is longer than m42, so yes, this is the reason why you can't reach infinity Wink

Not OK. Not a Helios-40-2 clone.

Idea How about this one-eyed monster I just constructed this morning:

Cyclop + Step-down ring to 180 degree fish-eye adapter.

Yes, I know, it certainly does look ridiculous Laughing

I now have an ultra wide angle Cyclop with a very deep depth of field. This may seem contrary to the ideal purposes of this lens...

But...when using for super close focus, Shocked depth of field can be very shallow. This was the main purpose of my experiment, to see if the character of this lens can be taken to the macro level and if the distorting nature of the fish-eye would accentuate the swirling effect.

This particular setup won't have any of that swirl because the area of glass used by this adapter is so small. But I am still wondering what kind of results would come from a larger diameter wide angle adapter with a native filter thread of 67mm or larger...?

I realize this should be posted in the adapters forum, but I find it of particular interest for the Cyclop. This is an adapter to NEX that has a built in adjustable diaphragm for aperture setting. However, I have not found on for M42 to NEX. I suppose one could first use an M42 to EOS, then this adapter?

I have thought about this one before (M42 to M42):
Click here to see on Ebay

(edited to use "ebay" tags in message pane)
Farside.

Doesn't that one extend the registration?

PostPosted: Tue Sep 17, 2013 6:36 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yeah, it would become a close-focus only lens with that in between.

It is probably better to by a Helios 40-2 Very Happy
