...of which only about 25 examples have ever been made (my own estimate based on 25 years of Pentax collecting).

I know someone living near me that has the FA 250-600 (he has 28 of the 30 Pentax Star lenses). I presume that it was not cheap ?

The FA* certainly is more common (though still super rare).

It was indeed not cheap, but at 3000 euros it was a steal (to me).

Thanks, I'm mad of course. But to this day I don't know of competing products from the more mainstream manufacturers. Both Canon and Nikon do not have such a versatile zoom range. I have tested the lens and it appears to be very sharp wide open.

Here's my father at 250mm f/5.6. I have resized the picture, but not sharpened.

I also did a sharpness test at 600mm tonight, still wide open:

A 100% crop from the above:

Unfortunately the lens is much heavier than my Sigma 500/4.5 APO EX (which is almost sold, by the way). But that's a price I have to pay for more versatility Smile

And here's the lens in all its glory:

Compared to the "tiny"F* 300/4.5:

Do you have any examples from that Samyang?

Congrats on the new lense.

Such a good one and such a beauty! I would like to ask you to publish pictures form this lens at Equipment Gallery too even if it's an AF lens and link there this thread with samples.

Thanks, but it was a joke about the Samyang. I don't own it, but based on examples I've seen it's hardly better than a drainpipe.

Thanks Rolf, but it was just a test shot. I don't intend to use this lens for portraiture. The set-up time would kill me Smile

A real beauty!
How much does it weight?
I suspect it would be around 4-5 kg.
I know that you need a sturdy tripod.

Thanks everyone!

Heh Doug, isn't that Marc Langille's FA* 250-600? I know that he also uses a blue rubber band to fix the filter drawer to the lens Smile

Of course it is, hence the collection of emoticons and the comment about my (non existent) wife! lol

In Delft? That's great, although I'm not living near that city. It's only a 1,5 hour drive however.

So you don't have a wife (anymore)? Then I'd suggest to hunt for one while you still can! I mean long expensive glass Laughing
