What is the VS 35-135? Sounds like a nice focal length indeed, but I
can't seem to put the "VS" together to figure out the brand. Maybe
Vivitar or something like that?

VS = Vario-Sonnar
It's another Contax zoom, I used to have it, I had to sacrifice it to pay my taxes, I had to choose to sacrifice one between the 35-135 and the 28-85, and I decided that the extra wide end of the latter was more useful for my purpose (walkaround lens for landscapes) than the extra end of the tele side.
They are all good lenses. There is no really bad Contax lens that I have tried so far, except perhaps for the Tele-Tessar 300, but that might have been a bad copy that I had.
I tried all Contax zooms except for two: the 70-210 (which costs a fortune, and could never find at a reasonable price) and the 28-70, which is the very last lens made for Contax SLR system.
