The Pentacon Oreston 50/1.8 I received as nice gift from Lucis
Pictor
is showing very nice qualities. It renders a little bit on the
average-to-cool side on colors, which I like very much. I guess that all
50mm lenses usually are pretty good, but I sure like the contrast with this
old lens. It is interesting how even the older lenses still show beautiful
results in their rendering.

I am using rbelyell's wonderful Contax AX in these
shots, with the M42 > C/Y adapter. Because of the mass of the AX, I am
finding myself able to hold the camera steadier than other cameras, which
is a nice thing.

This first shot shows the typical cooler colors and good contrast. The
flatbed scan is crappy, so maybe if you distance yourself from the monitor
a little, you can more readily see the snappy contrast without the artifacts.

This shot is with the Contax AX in Macro Mode. It's not "supposed" to
auto-focus (according to the directions) when in Macro Mode, but it
again locked on to the focal point in the lower part of the old rose
petals. DOF is too shallow once again, but this is a good idea of the
rendition of the Oreston once more. Bokeh is rather "swirly" here. Shocked

#1 for me, perfect composition and depth of field.

Colours of the 1st are great.

I never thought of using a lens with adapter on the AX but it's probably the only chance to get autofocus with a Pentacon lens.

Well I like the 3rd shot as it's so difficult to photograph a dark rose...maybe we should have a dark rose thread/competition Wink
