I have the same lens in very good condition and do like it very much. It is slightly soft wide open but at F8 it is very sharp. I do like the color rendition all around.

Here it is, on a 40D, wide open:



And here at F8



I tried to get the model to wash her face but she told me to do something sexual with myself.

Yes it is a sharp lens. A like it but it is more prone to flare than the SMC coated Pentax kit lens (AF 18-55) of mine so I think than the Pentax counterpart, the 28mm f:2.8 could be better but its more expensive than the Chinon Wink ( see some comparisons between older 28mm lens http://www.pbase.com/steephill/28mms )

If you buy a rubber hood, it will be easy to cut it to fit your Chinon's 28mm without vignetting. That will fix the flare (at least the lateral one, of course if you shoot into the sun it's another matter, but then nearly all lenses would get flare) Wink

what size hood is it? I'm guessing 62mm but does anyone know for sure?

Smaller, 52mm.

No, mines definitely not a 52mm filter thread. I have filters in 52mm, 55mm, and 67mm. The 67mm is just a tad to big for it and I assumed 62mm was the next most usual size. The front ring reads AUTO CHINON 1:2.8 f=28mm 513171 Chinon Ind., Inc. Japan. Any thoughts?

Aha . . mine doesn't say Auto, but is has the Auto-Manual switch.

Mine says: CHINON 1:2.8 f=28mm multi coated 827484 52Ф

This is apparently a different lens.

Though even this says it is a 49mm filter thread...hmmm. I wonder the differences between the two.

Yes me too. Mine's definately a different lens.



Mine has a fancy side also, recessed Fstop numbers, woo hoo.



Also I have a Chinar 28



(Nikon/Nikkor . . Chinon/Chinar??) ha ha

I have just received a good 28mm/2.8 from UK today. The serial number reads 510730, i wonder what year it was the manufactured. Thanks.
