Used (necessarily) as a macro, I would classify this lens as "Impressionistic", definitely at wide open, but also down to about f/5.6 or f/8. This of course depends from the extreme proximity of the subject.
WHen most or fully stopped down, the lens reveals itself as very sharp.

Stolen from me you mean  I want that lens (and a Contax III for the matter  ). So lenses for the Contax rangefinders are in M39 mount, that's interesting (I'm waiting for a Zorki Is to come).

No, they have the Contax bayonet. I used a M39 adapter to reduce the surface of the hole of the 5D.
The base of the lens is very tiny - it's like half of the front lens and if you consider that the front lens has a diameter of (I think) 40mm more or less...

True. If someone is interested in an impressionistic macro lens, can buy a J-3 with a M39 adapter. The total cost should be below 100 Eur.

My advice is to not get a M39-M42 ring, because if they are screwed tight into either the adapter or lens, they will never be removed. Better invest in a M39 adapter directly. You spend a little more, but you have a normal adapter that you can take easily on and off without cursing all the saints in the paradise

Nope and it was never been done because of the physical limitations of the Sonnar scheme, at 50mm the rear lens would hit the mirror in a SLR, so they had to use the Sonnar scheme just for teles.
