I love it, and will never part with it. I ran a roll of Ektar through it last week, and I'll be putting some other nice films through it soon. _________________ Too many to list. |

Seems to me that if somebody wanted an EOS film camera that was a decent performer compared to more recent models -- whether Canon, Nikon, or whatever -- the EOS-3 would be the way to go. It seems to go for about the same or a bit less than the 1n on eBay, but its technology is superior to the 1n's -- at least in terms of AF speed and control.
Would you agree with this assessment? _________________ Michael

Well I have myself an EOS 50, EOS 620 and I was recently given an EOS 500 and of course my EF-M.
I've not tried the 500 yet, but I'm really impressed with the EOS 50 and currently on the 2nd roll with the EOS 620 which is a ver nice camera if a little dated. But like I said, I only wanted it for its fast shutter & x-sync. _________________ Casual attendance these days |

The EOS 50 is the same as the EOS Elan II here in the US. It's a solid camera. As I mentioned before, I've owned one and a IIe (50e). Still have the IIe, and I agree with your impressions, Martin. It's just a good, solid camera. As long as the shutter blades don't get gummed up with that tar from the foam rubber dissolving, that is. You might end up having to clean the blades the way I mentioned in an earlier message.
This problem exists with not just the 50/Elan II series, but with other EOS cameras as well. What I found out from members over at the KY Classic Cameras repair site is they will use a cut-up business card, and run it down through the bottom of the shutter below the blades to scrape out this residue. I haven't done this yet, but I plan to because just cleaning the blades will probably not entirely eliminate the problem. _________________ Michael

I have an Rebel Xs purchased new in the States back in 95 or so and a 300V purchased a few months ago from ebay - was very impressed with the results of the 300V matched with a 300EZ flash. I have been looking at the EF-M but am using the others to try and improve my manual focussing skills - not sure why but I get the impression that the rebel is easier than the 300V to focus with a manual lens.
The plan is to acquire a Canon digital body as soon as funds permit -probably a 350D or equivalent to start with. _________________

I have an A2 that I picked up for next to nothing . Cleaned the sticky grip and its just about like new. I like the AF with the five points OK, but I really like the way it handles exposure compared to my Nikons. The thing that stopped me from using it more often was the 2CR5 batteries. I have since bought a rechargeable 2CR5 complete with world-wide charger that takes US or European power. $25 a Battery Barn (www.batterybarn.com).
With the battery problem solved, I just ordered an EOS 1n from KEH without the battery grip. I had considered the EOS 3 which has newer features, but it is 3x the price of the 1n.
Its all good fun

Until recently I owned an EOS 1n and EOS 3. I sold the EOS 3 as I enjoy using the 1n more. It is also a higher build quality camera. Results wise there is no difference but having said that, it is the quality of the glass attached to it and the skill of the photographer using it that matters! _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

The stickiness is from the plastic in the grip degrading and slowly liquifying. I asked my brother in law what can be done about this -- he's worked in the plastics industry his entire career -- and he said there's nothing much that can be done about it. Just wipe it down and keep it clean. I told him I used isopropyl alcohol to wipe it down with and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that would work as well as anything. Oh well. _________________ Michael

Canon cameras seem to have the worst sticky on their grips. I believe it is the plastic getting bad, as Michael has said. What I did with my A2 was to use ether, automotive starter fluid. OUTSIDE, I sprayed some in a cup to get liquid and wiped the grip with a rag. When I got as much of the sticky stuff off I used a light oil to seal it. It's not perfect, but it's not sticking to my hands.
If you try this, be sure to do this OUTSIDE! Breathing Ether will kill you! You need good ventilation ! Ether is also very flammable!

I've done this before. I kinda like it when that happens, cuz sometimes the lens caps turn out to be better than anticipated.
Quite a collection you've got, though. I've managed to content myself with an Elan IIe. It does everything I need, which really isn't all that much with an AF film camera. _________________ Michael

Sadly... that's an incomplete list.. I am still attemptingto catalogue my 'collection...
Recently a newbie (though highly talented)asked if I could lend them a Pentax film SLR.. I said sure, and lent hem a ZX-50.... sadly they said it seemed faulty.
I was surprised as I thought I had used it myself recently.. Then I saw another in my closet... eventually 4 (FOUR) have surfaced. I fear they are cloning in the dark...
It's the same with the Rebels.. I have far too many, and I have been reliably informed that I have way more than two 650 EOS bodies by someone who does keep track (so she can moan at me... lol)
