Personally, I think the Konica Hexanon 2.8/24 is amazing, very usable wide open, distortion, even on full frame is very well controlled and it has 3D pop like a Zeiss T* lens. Contrast is very strong and it's very flare resistant, I'll never part with it. I shot this wide open the other day with mine.

Well I agree with the FD, I had a set of FD lenses before, and that lens was a gem! if we talk about 28mm I will say Pentax K28 f/2 (it's even better than the mother Zeiss 28mm f/2 "HollyWood"). Next maybe the Nikkor 28mm f/2 AIS...

H'mm well there is the Vivitar (Komine) 24mm f2, I've done a few tests with a crappy OM20 with the manual speeds not working...and it's a bit soft wide open and at f2 flares easily but stopped down seems sharp enough, but have no idea if it should be in the short list for "the best 24mm lenses".

I'll just echo the nFD 24/2. It's a truly stellar lens; one of the best of the entire FD system. The quality well exceeds the 24/2.8 in terms of sharpness, bokeh, and build. The Vivitar 24/2 is a decent consolation lens. Expect $450-500 for the nFD in very good condition; there's always some on eBay. |
