I have this versenkbar Sonnar 2/50 made in 1938, really in battered condition, poor lens Sad
it looks like a dog has bitten it on the barrel (like teeth marks Question Surprised )
But glass is pristine and look how it works - no coating!!!!! Shocked no edit on picture, it's straight out of the M9.
Wide open:

It's the best performing Contax Sonnar 50mm amongst all those that I have.
It reminds me of the rendering of the 1.4/35 Distagon! Shocked
Especially when it comes to lenses, it is really true that you don't have to judge a book by it's cover!

Yes! Also because you can get a lens like this nearly for free! Very Happy
Another sample from this amazing lens, this time at f/5.6 infinity.
It's a very dull day, yet note what strong clarity and dimensionality
(no Leica glow, sorry Laughing )
Remember, lens is from 1938 which means it has no coating!! Here I am shooting backlight
I am liking it better than my Contax Planar 1.4/50! Shocked

again, no edit on picture, straight out of camera with standard settings:

Beautiful pics --- if you still have the lens, could you post some detailed pics of the rear end, as I have what may be a collapsible Sonnar, only the mount is loose and I'd love to figure out how it is fixed on.

I don't remember if I sold or kept this one Embarassed I had several copies of this lens, it's common and quite cheap here
I'll have a look tomorrow - if I still have it, I'll surely photograph it for you.

First pic clearly illustrates why I like the 2/50 Sonnar, fab results!

Cheers, Rick and Bill.
Jussi, I took this photo hand held in horrible light, but maybe it's enough for you to figure out.
If it isn't, I will take a better one with daylight.

Left to right:

- non-collapsible model
- collapsible model, fully retracted
- collapsible model, fully extended

Note that you can easily tell the collapsible from the fixed one by some elements:
- collapsible is shorter (ok, not much use if you don't have a comparison term Rolling Eyes )
- collapsible has a longer front ring, the fixed one has a thin front ring
- in the collapsible model, the gap between the movable part and the static part is noticeable, the fixed model has a whole barrel with no gaps

HTH,
Orio

I have a Contax-M adapter, made by Amedeo in Argentina
It works well with standard lens, not so well with tele lenses (focus coupling a bit off).
Beware, it's expensive - but made of top quality materials and machinery.

Wooow!
"Versenkbar" is German and simply means "collapsible" btw.
