Last part of my afternoon trip in Lunigiana: Pontremoli.
The village of the two rivers and many ancient bridges, it's Latin name was Apua, and it was the capital of the tribe of Apuans
(who studied Roman history will surely recall how fiercely the Apuans opposed the Roman army).
This small village was important throughout the history, for it's strategic position on the road that connects the north of Italy (Parma)
with the centre (Tuscany).
It is also curious for an Emilian to come here, because although located in the region of Tuscany, the dialect of the people of Pontremoli
does not sound Tuscanian at all, in fact, it sounds a lot close to the Parmesan dialects of the mountains (which is what I also speak).

Yes, that too! And thanks for showing us the part of Italy that we don't normally see in famous touristy photos. And I like such "old world" towns, it looks like a very peaceful place with a lot of history.

Thanks Klaus, I did experiment with colours a bit in this series, I wanted to obtain something different, not standard.

Beautiful, and knowing the place is a further reason of interest.
Strangely, I was pretty sure I had already commented on this series back in september.
Anyway, near the river there's a little restaurant I love, I always stop there when coming back from my parents' home in Versilia, usually in late august, and eat tons of mushrooms.
