I can vouch for the preset Macro Takumar 50/4 - goes to 1:1 and gives excellent results. The Micro Nikkor 3.5 is also superb, using the tube allows 1:1. _________________ -Jussi

The Canon FD Macro lens is very cheap these days because it won't focus to infinity on an EOS except when used with a corrective optical adapter. With a plain FD-EOS mount adapter, though, it does work in its macro range on an EOS. The images it produces are outstanding. On full frame the lens goes down to 1:2 but with the 1.6 crop factor on my 7D it will reach down to nearly 1:1. |

Are we talking about magnification factor on the film/sensor?
I get 1:2 magnification on both 1.6 crop camera and full frame sensor/film, using same lens. at 1:2. _________________

That's a good question so I did a quick check. The sensor on the 7D is 22.3mm wide. At 1:2 extension the 50mm Canon Macro fills the frame with a 32mm wide object. I believe that's just about 1:1.5. For full 1:1 an extension tube or other accessory would be needed. _________________ Best wishes,

There was a Vivitar/Soligor/others? 55mm f2.8 macro that comes with a 1:1 extension. I have one on the way, so can compare to other options when it gets here. But it can be had in the $80-130 range, depending upon mount and the weather. _________________ DSLR: Pentax K-3 II, D-BG5 grip, SLR: Pentax SP500, Pentax SP, Pentax SP II, Pentax Spotmatic F, MX, ME-Super, Super Program, pZ-1

I recently bought the FD 50/3.5 macro lens with the 1:1 "Life size adapter" for ~€100. I also got the FD 100/4 macro at the same time.
Haven't had time to try out the lenses a lot yet, but what I've read is that they seems to be very good macro alternatives if just shooting macro.
Very good optics to reasonable price.
The drawback is ofcourse the lack of infinity focus, so it must be used as a dedicated macro lens. |

+1 for the Canon FD 50/3.5, a cheap lens which is perfectly corrected for all aberrations. I use it on a Micro 4/3rds camera and the results are outstanding.
Cheers!
