I have a lens since some time which is said to be made by Carl Zeiss Jena, but honestly I doubt that and there is no sign on it indicating that.

It is a f1.9/180mm lens, very very heavy and a hunk of glass, has a built in aperture (which can be fully closed!?). Front lens is ca 95mm diamater and weight is about 2 Kilos.

I thought it might have been from a night vision system due to the f1.9 and the aperture which can be closed (to protect an image intensifier)...

Any ideas??

Possibly -

X-Ray lens ? I have seen some similar items from Kowa and Rodenstock - very large aperture.

This guy has some -

if it's an X-RAy lens, that has been used, then be very cautious in handling it. It could be really radio-active!

It's definitely a Canon L lens. It has the famous red ring... (just joking Laughing )

The only thing I can add is that it's definitely a continental (European) lens (the aperture reads 1:1,9 instead of F/1.9). Could be East German, or even Russian.

Cheers!

I don't think it is a X-Ray lens. They don't have built in apertures, which would not be useful anyway since every photon needs to be catches from that low intensity phosphorus screen. And that is also the reason why it won't be radioactive.

I have several of these lenses myself, but not one looks like that.

Looks more like some avaliable light lens, maybe for an image intensifier.

Yep, the Komma instad of the Dot is also a dead giveaway!

"Aero" lens . May be . The well-known one is the aero Ektar 2,5/178 , this Zeiss is not so far ...
"Process lenses" are generally different , with lower max apertures (F/5,6,f/9 etc ...)

Hi Helios,

that would be an idea, need to check on that.

Cheers,

Klaus, do you intend to use it, how do you adapt it (thinking of a modern dSLR)?

PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2008 11:32 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I have done quite a few lens adaptions, so I have some practise, yet haven't found out what that lens would be best for and that influences the mounting quite a bit.

This for instance was shot using an adapted Xray lens...
