Post a clear picture when you have it in hand.
I think I may have one in the no longer used section of the closet.

It came today- completely mint throughout but there is some weird moisture/grease deposits close to the rear element.

Definitely not as bad as other lenses and probably just a matter of boosting contrast in post for now. I'm not sufficiently prepared right now to clean it though.

Initial tests show I immediately prefer this lens because of the smoother bokeh at all focal lengths. The Series 1 35-85mm is incredibly harsh outlining up to about 80ish mm when it trades some aberrations for another and smooths out.

The rear element is probably pretty easy to get out. I see two holes in it you can put the pointy parts of a lens wrench in. Maybe it's a group of elements instead of one element fixed with a retaining ring.

I'm interested to see how the Pentax-M 2.8/28 performs as I've been thinking of getting one to replace the very underwhelming Ricoh 3.5/28 Aspheric.

Let me know what kind of images you need - I can upload a few or (if you send me your email via PM) send you the RAW files.

There are two versions of it. I got version one with silver band. The second version has different optics similar to the SMC Pentax-A 28mm 2.8 and has a similar looking body as well, just no aperture contact. I don't know the Ricoh Aspherical but the XR Rikenon 28mm 3.5 not aspherical is a rebadge of the SMC Pentax-m 28mm 1:3.5 and I do like that lens.

At least they went to the trouble of making it focus in the "Correct" Razz nikkor direction.
One of the few 3rd party lenses I have that gets along with the D-810's focusing arrows.

Couple of thrift store finds. (there had been a nikon FM in there I just missed).
$9.99 each. Total came out to $19.98 Razz

Kino/Kiron mfg. 28mm f2
It needs work- oil on aperture blades. It closes down slowly.
If I hold my breath, it will stop down to 2.8 without over-exposing, but I gotta remember to hold breath...

This one is actually quite interesting.
Kobori mfg. 80-200 f4.5.
For an 80-200mm, it is quite small.
It's close focus is available only at 80mm.
I couldn't find a thing wrong with it, and it seems reasonably sharp.
Focus throw is short by quite a bit with only a 1/4 turn going from normal MFD to the infinity stop.
It is a bit finicky to focus at distance.
There is no D.O.F. scale on it.
I don't think I've ever seen one of these before.
It may be mid 80's as it has the "S" scoop milled into the back of the mount for the FA cameras, and newer.

I won the Ebay lottery.

Got the legendary Contax-Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 100-300 f4.5-5.6 in near-mint condition for only 399 Euros! Yay!

That's a lens I'd love to check ...! I though of buying one a few years ago, but when looking at the test images at "philipreeve", I decided not to buy unless I could test the lens before buying:

https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-contax-vario-sonnar-t-4-5-5-6-100-300/#more-11801

Looking at these test images I suspect the Minolta AF 4.5-5.6/75-300mm (first full metal version "big beercan") to be as good as the Zeiss, especially since the MinAF 75-300mm (I) was very expensive back in its days (CHF 1090.-- in 1987, as far as I remember). That was a lot more than the CHF 390.-- you had topay for the MinAF 4/70-210mm (which was equally well built). I have several samples of the MinAF 75-300mm (I), and at f=200mm they haven't much more lateral CAs than the MinAF 2.8/200mm APO G ... In short: I should be really interesting to compare those two lenses side by side!

I'm looking forward to hear about your experiences. I have the Zeiss CY 3.5/70-210mm as well as the Zeiss CY 4/80-200mm; so maybe you compare your "new" 100-300 to one of these two shorter zooms?

I now have 4 Contaxes: 35-70, 28-85, 80-200 and 100-300.

The 100-300 is WAY sharper (more resolution) than the 80-200. Other league, really. It's now my sharpest lens (and I also have the Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 Macro, which is no slouch either...).

It is, so to say, the tele companion to the 35-70. Also very pleasing, accurate and differentiated color rendering. Microcontrast is "whoa", at the same time general contrast is on the lower side (comparable more to the 28-85 than the 35-70), which is an advantage because better suited for high dynamic range shooting situations. In short, one of these lenses where each photo already in the viewfinder looks wonderful.

In regard to the phillipreeve.net review, I can say 2 things: First, some of the sample shots are obviously shot at high ISOs so that resolution drops. Second, it seems to me as if the reviewer didn't get an excellent sample.

Are you sure? When looking at the "philipreeve" crops, my main reservation are the pretty strong lateral CAs visible at f=200mm and f=300mm. I don't think that this is "sample variation", but an inherent property of the construction of the CY 100-300mm. Of cours I may be wrong, though.

So - if your sample is really better, it would be interesting to see a few 100% crops, especially at f=200mm and f=300mm. I'm sure others would be interested as well!

Thanks in advance Wink

ASAHI PENTAX Super-Multi-Coated BELLOWS-TAKUMAR 100mm f/4

I don't usually venture much outside of the Rokkor lenses, but recently I couldn't resist an almost mint Pentax Copy Stand III with focus rail and additional table clamp, which seems as well-designed if not better than my Minolta Copy Stand II. After adding a Pentax Auto-Bellows (M42) for this as well it made sense to complete it with an M42 Pentax bellows lens.

The short rails unit at lower right in the second photo looks interesting.
Is it part of the stand package, or something else?

That is a focus rail that comes with the copy stand and can be detached from the stand for mounting the Pentax Auto Bellows unit instead.

All very well made with chromium-plated brass and a hard-wearing wrinkle paint finish throughout. Even the stand column is made of 2-3mm thick chromium plated brass tubing, not steel.

Rikenon 55mm f/1.4 for Nikon F mount (well, not strictly an F mount).

Interesting lens, there doesn't seem to be much indication of who designed it. There is speculation it may be a rebadged copy of Nikons earlier 5.8cm F/1.4, and parts of the lens bear definite design similarities with Nikon lenses, but when I checked the rear elements are a different size to each other. It's also not the same as other 55/1.4 lenses of the era (i.e. the many M42 versions seen attributed to Tomioka and Cosinon).

Looks a bit like one of their many Minolta MF lens clones, but the optics will be different. Minolta made two different optical 2.8/24mm calculations for their MF SR mount lenses, and neither of those have a front element that looks like the Seagull.

Congrats

From my data, this is a 8e7g lens. Performance is not as good as the Minolta MC/MD or Sigma Super Wide II. Still worth to try.

Interesting. The brochure is even in traditional Chinese. So I guess it is meant for oversea at that time?

Thanks for the extra info. I am going to double check with my Nikon 5.8cm/1.4 and all other 55mm/1.4. Agreed, from my memory, this 55mm/1.4 is different from other M42 versions

got a nice little pile of stuff for $30: a Zenit 122B with Zenitar-M2 50/2 and Industar 61 L/Z 50/2.8 macro .... weather should be good to get out and shoot with them tomorrow.

When I checked online you can still buy them new(new old stock I presume) in Malaysia for 380 Malaysian Ringgits, about US$90.

Industar 61 L/Z is a good cheap macro lens for technical work, though I much prefer Volna-9 as a more general purpose lens with a nice bokeh wide open.
What for Zenitar-M2, I have never had one myself, though it is rather cheap and common. I've heard that it is quite good optically, in spite of being too plastic especially for a Soviet lens.
