Thanks Atilla for your warm welcome, you're right this photo has PS but still good one, isn't it?

I have too many questions to ask, i've lurked for some time but my mind confused much, MF world is exciting, i have 4 MF lenses in a week but i cannot say i have sufficient info about them. Sad I currently use D700 and i still couldn't understand which MF lenses i can use and which i even must not think about.

During last few months I've been using mainly Leitz 60mm/2.8 Elmarit. Always wide open.

Pentax PENTAX K20D,Leitz 60mm f/2.8 Macro-Elmarit-R
1/800s f/2.8 at 60.0mm iso100

Other great portrait lens is Pentax SMC 50/1.2.

It looks that 35mm lens is quite good portrait lens for APS-C camera.

I am happy with many 50mm on DSLR. Here is CZJ Pancolar 50/1.8.

superb portraits Piotrek! congrats for your nice family

great portrait djmike! the eyes are so expressive and you don't put them in the center of the frame like most, bokeh is top

I am pretty happy with Contax Zeiss 85/1.2 50 Year edition Smile

5D Mark 2, wide open & hand held at 1/150 s (focused via Live View):

100% crop (it was shot at ISO 800 and converted without noise reduction in DPP)

I must say, for f/1.2 I find this sharpness level pretty amazing. It is sharper than Contax 85/1.4 @ 1.4.

Couple of others not mentioned yet:

1) OM Zuiko 85/2. Nice colors and by 2.8 it almost rivals the above mentioned Contax in sharpness. And it's so small for 85!

2) Porst (Cosina) 55/1.2 in Pentax mount. Wide open it is soft, but not too soft, and adds some light glowing effect, which I think is very flattering to women, especially with less than perfect skin. Very nice bokeh too. By 2.8 it is as sharp as Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 or any other 50mm lens I've seen. Definitely blows away my Canon EF 50/1.4.

"Contax Zeiss 85/1.2 50 Year edition & 5D Mark 2"

Who wouldn't be happy with that? Wink

No, I am not a pro. I wish I would but my current job is also interesting and pays better Smile Anyway, lenses like this one are expensive to buy but there is virtually no value depreciation, so it makes for an inexpensive hobby, right? Well, not really as upgrading from 5D to 5D Mark 2 has cost me about a grand - but worth every penny IMHO.

If interested, you can see some of my pics here - http://www.pirius.com (haven't updated in a long time though)

I think that between 50mm and 100mm works better in most cases Smile

though I like my 135mm too (I just don't like 100% what I made of this portrait opportunity)

These samples all on a crop camera, where I think between 50 and 100mm is the optimal length for portraits. Normally, 135mm would be maximum, or already too long on a crop camera.

what makes a "pro" being a "pro"? the university? the money you earn with it?

i would say: these pictures say, that you are a "pro"!
lot of them realy touched me! thank you.

To me "pro" means to earn a living with it. All I have earned so far with my photos (because I am lazy?) are just a couple of prizes like P&S camera on some contests. I also earned a lot of happy moments but I can't put a price tag on that Smile

Contax Zeiss 85/1.2? Very hard to show something impressive then.

I like CZJ Biometar 2.8/80. Not that difficult to handle wide open Wink
