I have had this lens for a while but did not use it much since my first attempts with it, because it had a very
stiff focus ring. However I recently picked it up and somehow the focus ring was no longer stiff!
here are some shots with it.

Thank you.
I am happy with this lens and was glad to find one I could afford.
I also heard good things about it. So glad it is working.

Gorgeous results! Really like the kittens, adorable capture.

I also have one that's suffering from a stiff focus ring. A shot of silicone lube freed it up, but returned once it evaporated.
Put it aside and haven't tried it. I think it's time to return it back to working order.

Love the color rendering.

Indeed very nice examples. Well done.

Most of these old Fujinons are very capable. I have some of them too.

Very, very nice results. I have to get myself an EBC -_- I keep loving the results people post.

Nice photo! I don't have the EBC, but I do have a regular Fujinon 55/1.8. They're slightly soft - great for flowers or portraits.

Wait till you try the EBC 50mm f1.4...

Adeline Villa by Lee Wooi Chun, on Flickr

The sharpness might not be at the same level of the 55mm f1.8, but the rendering is as good as it gets!

Thank you for the replies everyone!
I have been traveling and could not respond.
Glad you liked the photos.

They are excellent pictures, and obviously a very good lens. I have the 55 f2.2 which is cheap, plasticy, slow, and on my 'for sale' list for a very long time. But then I tried it again....it's sharp with spectacular bubble bokeh, and still cheap and plasticky. I shall keep it, and look for other Fujinon EBC lenses, they look rather good. Very Happy

Good decision. Wink
David, you may also look for the 50/1.6 lens which was one of the sharpest lenses available in the 1980's, even beating Leica and Zeiss and alike when stopped down a little bit. It's available in both EBC and non EBC version and also branded as "Porst" both UMC and non UMC. The lens quality is always the same in terms of sharpness. However, those are in the old Fujica AX mounts but with your NEX this shouldn't be any problem. I have some different variants in 50 and 55mm and didn't see any remarkable difference between EBC and non EBC variants (M42 and AX).

I have been downsizing my nifty fifties and so doing some comparisons for my own benefit.
One lens that will be staying is the EBC Fujinon 1.8/55.

Thank you jamaeolus.
The lens is rather good and has several very nice characteristics.
It creates the bubble bokeh with specular highlights under the right circumstances and is reasonably sharp wide open.
Closed down even a little and it is very sharp indeed with excellent colour.
One of the good nifty-fifties for sure

Great lens. One of my favorite old kit lenses, for sure. The EBC ones seem to be a little harder to find than the older ones.

Thanks fellas.
The lens is also capable of bubble bokeh.
This isn't a great example, but does illustrate it.

Nice examples here....

Out of curiosity I've compared the 55/1.8 shown here with the 50/1.6 on Sony A7R2 42MP/FF.

Not really surprising the newer 50/1.6 is by far superior, particularly for landscape photography. IMHO the best 50mm lens for very little money, particularly when labelled as Porst Color Reflex.
However, unfortunately it's only available in Fujica AX mount and there is no adapter available from AX to LM for the usage on my Techart PRO adapter, therefore no AF support.
The 55/1.8 is in M42 and therefore much more versatile. Finally, it's not bad as well.

Just my 2 cents....

Thank you
It's a pity that we aren't talking about the 50mm f1.6.
It would be good to see a new thread on it showing off its excellence

Well, there are already enough examples from the 50/1.6 lens here in this forum.
However, I didn't see any direct comparison yet.
Therefore I was curios to find out and simply shared my experience for those who might be interested. That's all.
I've no plans to start another new thread.
Please ignore my previous posting if it's not of interest for you....
