Thank you.
I am happy with this lens and was glad to find one I could afford.
I also heard good things about it. So glad it is working. |

Gorgeous results! Really like the kittens, adorable capture.
I also have one that's suffering from a stiff focus ring. A shot of silicone lube freed it up, but returned once it evaporated.
Put it aside and haven't tried it. I think it's time to return it back to working order.

Nice photo! I don't have the EBC, but I do have a regular Fujinon 55/1.8. They're slightly soft - great for flowers or portraits. _________________ My crazy Flickr group: Effected Cameras

The sharpness might not be at the same level of the 55mm f1.8, but the rendering is as good as it gets! _________________ Sony A7ii | CV15iii | Batis 25 | Zeiss Sonnar 50ZM | CZJ S 135

They are excellent pictures, and obviously a very good lens. I have the 55 f2.2 which is cheap, plasticy, slow, and on my 'for sale' list for a very long time. But then I tried it again....it's sharp with spectacular bubble bokeh, and still cheap and plasticky. I shall keep it, and look for other Fujinon EBC lenses, they look rather good. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

Good decision.
David, you may also look for the 50/1.6 lens which was one of the sharpest lenses available in the 1980's, even beating Leica and Zeiss and alike when stopped down a little bit. It's available in both EBC and non EBC version and also branded as "Porst" both UMC and non UMC. The lens quality is always the same in terms of sharpness. However, those are in the old Fujica AX mounts but with your NEX this shouldn't be any problem. I have some different variants in 50 and 55mm and didn't see any remarkable difference between EBC and non EBC variants (M42 and AX).

Thank you jamaeolus.
The lens is rather good and has several very nice characteristics.
It creates the bubble bokeh with specular highlights under the right circumstances and is reasonably sharp wide open.
Closed down even a little and it is very sharp indeed with excellent colour.
One of the good nifty-fifties for sure

This isn't a great example, but does illustrate it.

Nice examples here....
Out of curiosity I've compared the 55/1.8 shown here with the 50/1.6 on Sony A7R2 42MP/FF.
Not really surprising the newer 50/1.6 is by far superior, particularly for landscape photography. IMHO the best 50mm lens for very little money, particularly when labelled as Porst Color Reflex.
However, unfortunately it's only available in Fujica AX mount and there is no adapter available from AX to LM for the usage on my Techart PRO adapter, therefore no AF support.
The 55/1.8 is in M42 and therefore much more versatile. Finally, it's not bad as well.
Just my 2 cents.... _________________ Thomas Bernardy

It's a pity that we aren't talking about the 50mm f1.6.
It would be good to see a new thread on it showing off its excellence

Well, there are already enough examples from the 50/1.6 lens here in this forum.
However, I didn't see any direct comparison yet.
Therefore I was curios to find out and simply shared my experience for those who might be interested. That's all.
I've no plans to start another new thread.
Please ignore my previous posting if it's not of interest for you.... _________________ Thomas Bernardy
