These are just wonderful, such a high class vintage look, the skin is so smooth and milky, like fine white marble or alabaster.

Lens has that vintage look of sharp yet very smooth, for me, this is the perfect rendition for portraits, especially of ladies.

Excellent portrait lens, look at that s m o o t h bokeh! Of course, subject matter helps these, too. Smile

Looks like a winner to me!

Bokeh reminds me of the old Goerz Dagor lenses on 4x5 and 8x10 cameras.

with maximum stopped down about 5mm diameter circle in blades, lens is razor sharp , but still with superb smooth bokeh like most 35mm lens at wide open.

Excellent color photos Attila! A projection lens with iris? Did
you attach one to it or mount it into a lens barrel w. iris?

Thank you! I bought a NEX-EOS adapter with aperture blades and tape fix it on projector lens back.

The colour shots are lovely and interesting to see how sharp it is stopped down, the bokeh is still wonderfully smooth too.

I still prefer the wide open BW ones though, the smoothness of them appeals to me.

You obviously have a very excellent portrait lens on your hands now though, to compete with your Biotar 75, Pancolar 80 etc.

Looks pretty handy, my 168mm version is much bigger, 3cm or so greater diameter barrel and very heavy. This looks nice and handy to use.

Hi there

the Visionar was developed by Carl Zeiss Jena in the sixties as a 6 lens/element Gauss type for 35mm Film/cinema projection (exactly 18,1 x 23,2 mm) and thus will nearly fill the Nex´s sensor. It was a series of powerful lenses, mostly manufactured at Carl Zeiss Jena or at Rathenower Optische Werke ROW up to the very impressive 1,9/200 which has a 4.1" front element.
The resolution of those lenses (fully open, no aperture) reached 10µm from center to 10mm off and then declines to 20 µm at 15 mm (circle of 30 mm) and is therefor suitable for a lot of CCD or CMOS sensors with similar pixel size ( or via binning) in astronomy.
This was published by Carl Zeiss Jena in the anual Yearbook 1960 part 1 on page53ff.

Obviously it also renders a beautiful bokeeh with other objects.

Attila, one question, how did you manage to "link" the lens, which has no focuser, to the NEX body ?

Cheers
Georg

Divisional Director at Carl Zeiss Vision, retired.

The lens looks fine, but it's hard to know for sure since your model could make any lens look good.
