Wow, very nice and sharp. Great color and contrast -- nice saturation. I can count her eyelashes and the individual strands of hair on her forehead.

I'm not familiar with the make and model. Is this an AF lens? Price range?

A lens with apodization filter?
A competitor to the rare lenses with this - whow! 105mm with f/2 T3.0 sounds for me more useful than the Sony 135 STF.

Their preliminary 15mm f/4 wideangel macro lens sounds interessting too!

Venus Optics recently released a really good 2:1 macro lens 60/2.8 (about $370) and it's fully manual. I think this 105mm will be manual, too, and I hope that the price is also reasonable. If it's around $400 I will consider getting it, looks very promising.

@cooltouch
Manual lens. No price info till now.

@ZoneV
Form what I understand, the apodization is build and the lens comes with two sets of aperture.

@Langstrum
I think they will give this lens a competitive price.

Looks pretty good to me except the MFD, which is too long my my photography

I've never understood people complaining about MFD, that's what extension tubes are for.

0.9M should be fine for portraits which is the main purpose of this lens. Friends

Judging from the samples, the bokeh is so smooth and the microcontrast is top-notch, it's so good that I can see hairs from model's nose...

T and F aperture are not two different apertures, I think, just given for videographers/filmers
(T stands for transmission and reflects the true light transmission of a lens at a given f-stop,
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-number#T-stop )

It looks like a very good lens to me and the price of ~600$ is reasonable.

IMO, the second aperture could be placed very near to the apodization filter to control the apodization effect and it induces a non-linear reduction in the light transmission, too (the reason to mark it in T values).

I think the aperture works like the one in the Minolta STF: the 8-blade aperture works in auto aperture mode(on Nikon, Pentax etc.) while the 14-blade aperture is a step-less aperture.

Anyway, to use a f-stops marked diaphragm with an apodization filter is, IMO, useless.
Because of the filter the f-markings do not reflect correctly the reduction in the light that reaches the sensor.
Its only reason to be there probably is to control the DOF in a traditional manner.

Where did you find this info about the two apertures Calvin? Maybe it was hidden in the chinese text...

This is what I think. We will know more details later when reviews avaliable.

P.S. There should be 14-blade aperture for the T aperture.

OK, I hope we find out soon about that interesting lens.

As there are many website reporting the news of this lens, I think it is time to move this thread to the public area.

Thanks Klaus!

I saw someone asked in the pentaxforums regarding the aperture control: the Nikon and Pentax version of this lens has mechanical automatic aperture control. The Sony A version may have automatic aperture control but I can't confirm at this moment.

From some of the test images it looks like the apodization filter is not very strong.
But lets wait and see a 1:1 comparison with the Minolta/Sony STF and Fuji. And probably further competitors like that current Kickstarter project.

PostPosted: Thu Jan 14, 2016 3:20 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yes. It is certain that the Minolta/Sony STF has a stronger apodization filter than this lens. The sharpness and CA control seems pretty good to my eyes with the current samples. This lens will starts shipping within a few days and we will see more comparison in a short time.
