You're welcome, Jules.

Here are a few more pictures from the less visited areas of Bandar Seri Begawan taken with the Cooke Kinic, the wow lens which has instantly gained the rank of favorite of the moment on my E-P1, eclipsing every other lens:

Thank you for the new pictures.
The more I browse in this thread, the more do I want a Micro 4/3, too.
Might be useful as back-up body for vacaciones, too. Good excuse to get one... one day.

Great pictures indeed, thanks Sebastien!

That Kinic indeed shines whenever somthing is right centraly located in the middle of an image
so that swirly fuzzyness enhances that; with landscape shots or architectural etc., "flat"
subjects it is a different situation and I prefer more the rendering a Tevidon for instance will
give with high sharpnesss + contrast and flatfield over the whole image. I get a bit burnt out
if I see too many swirly images after another.... Wink

Not really an "odd" lens, but the famous slim CZJ Biotar 1.5 7,5cm (75mm) red T on Lumix GH1, shot fully open:

and I also had the Kinic with me, perfect for that subject:

Thank you Klaus for these refreshingly straight images. You know how to make the old Biotar sing.

Cheers!

Now that I have a GF1, I need to start looking into all these weird lenses Smile Obviously, I'd kill for a nice f0.95 lens... if I could ever come across one... I am eyeing a Robot/CZJ Biotar 40/2 though. Anybody try one of those?

PostPosted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 6:11 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I decided in favor of the Schneider 1.9/40mm Xenon for Robot, which is supposed to be the better lens

Thanks Klaus, I'll keep an eye out for that one. In the mean time, there's an offering for the Biotar 40/2 @ $80US. What do you think of the price? These things are so rare that it's hard to gauge the market value. I see Ebay/BIN prices in well in the hundreds, but we all know those Photo Arsenal type BIN prices don't really mean much Laughing

I payed EUR50 (ca %75) for my 40mm Schneider Xenon in EX++ condition (and the same for the 75mm, both last black versions - a steal) so shoot ahead!!

Finally gotten the time to pickup another digital camera to take this camera porn shot of my all time favorite "go anywhere" combo gear. I love the results i am getting. Was actually bend on getting the EP2 but during a hands-on comparison at my local shop, the GF1 wow me over. Now, i am hoping for a new improve release of GF1's EVF.

EP2 still inch win in terms of form factor, high iso noise performance and in-body stability. However, i am please to realize that with a f/0.95 i never really need high iso or IB Stabilizer as most shots are at 100iso. Infact, i am searching for a ND8 filter now! Smile

(Btw, this lens stays on my GF1 99.9% of the time, leaving my 20mm f1.7 pancake under a layer of dust Sad )

Nice shot, too bad the lens cap is on and so that beautiful glass can't be seen.

PostPosted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:52 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

I love the lens cap thats why.
Where will you get a metal lens cap these days?
Anyway, the len's glass is well set into the lens (which is a good kind of hood) and can't be seen from this angle.
Maybe all porn shots of mf lenses should start showing their lens cap. Cool
Hope you have enjoyed the shot.
Cheers, Ed Forrest

Hi Ed,
I love also the Angenieux lens cap Very Happy ....
I took a look on your Flickr and there are some realy great pictures, congrats Wink ....
As I said in an other post, I have may be a chance to get also an Angenieux 0.25/95mm lens but it seems to be a different version from yours! The one I saw on picture is labelled "P.Angenieux PARIS F.25 1:0,95 type M1", and on the lens cap, it's only mentioned "P.ANGENIEUX PARIS" without “Bell&Howell”! Do you have an idea if there are some differences (I mean optically!) between the two versions Question

PostPosted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 6:08 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I think it is the same lens. Angenieux was a preferred supplier for the Bell & Howell cameras, this is why they labeled Angenieux lenses as such. The lenses Angenieux sold directly, were of course just labeled P.Angenieux (P = Pierre), because that was the official name of the company.

Man, that GF1 looks good with that lens...

Ed, can you tell me about the extended focusing ring - did that come with the lens, did you find it somewhere? Because the focus ring is so close to the adapter, I would love to have one of those.

Pich900, for a short while I had both versions. I have to say that at the time both were not in perfect shape, at least the M1 is much nicer after I had it cleaned even though I thought it was fine. That said, I did not see much difference between the image quality in the lenses. I could swear that the B&H version was a little heavier for some reason, though. In a moment of weakness, I sold the B&H version, mostly because I had a matching filter ring and filter with it that I didn't need and I thought I would get a little more for this set. If I had to do it again, I would keep the B&H version - more for the haptic feeling and weight than the picture quality. But in the end, I don't think one would notice differences in the pictures. Well, I hope...

Stefan

P.S. Klaus, should I be seeing something in your last post?

hi pich900,
Thanks..I did a research earlier before purchasing this lens. This link might interest you.
http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8410
Comparing M1 and B&H, the link post photos of a dreamier B&H. I never owned both so i can't conclude. The only thing i can say is that my B&H looks clearer. Perhaps the B&H lens are less clean? etc...
With regards to the make, i did read somewhere that they were made at different factory (Sorry i lost the link)

Hi Apicius9,
Thanks! I love the extended focusing ring too! Smile I thought it looks cool. Some calls it the knurled ring. It came with my purchase from the previous owner. I think it might be hard to get one these days Sad

Cheers,
Ed Forrest
