I love this poster and looking at it - well this is worth of some quid

Unfortunately this MYTH ended when Kyocera ceased their production but

this myth still lives ... same as the Zeiss Jena -- this is a myth as well

I grabbed this picture from contaxinfo.com page hope that's OK Smile

why unfortunately ended ?
Zeiss is not Kyocera, not 35mm and not only photography
Jena is Zeiss even if mechanics was sometimes weaker
today Zeiss lenses are available for all system and make the joy of many photographer and movies shooter
long life to Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Canon and many others to many to list...

Nice poster. Thanks!

I like how the design follows a certain path through the whole line.
You know that for me a lens does not only have to be a great performer, it also has to look beautiful. I am kind of strange there.

If I was allowed to pick 5 of these lenses, this would be my set:

Distagon 2.8/21
Distagon 1.4/35
Planar 1.4/50
Planar 1.4/85
Aposonnar 2/200

What puzzles me is how Contaxinfo, which is nothing to do with Contax and nothing to do with Zeiss, can take a Zeiss publication and stamp their own "copyright" on it.

This poster lacks several lenses unfortunately. Yet it's cool to see.

The difference between the then Contax line, and today's Z line, is that the Contax line was a lot wider and offered many alternatives even in the same focal lenght. So it could fit all wallets.

Today luckily we have the used Contax lenses which are affordable but when they will get rarer (something which is already happening) we'll be left with only the Z lenses.

Call me paranoid but after what was said here a few days ago, I am now afraid that Zeiss might buy the used contax and destroy them in order to lower competition for their Z lenses Sad

That is why I think we must place an effort when possible to preserve the current Contax lenses.

This is what i don't forget to see when checking the RX brochure. i have two of those, and this is quite old like from the mid 90's i'd say . Owning two lenses and i'd be happy to have a Tele Apo-Tessar 300mm .. wonder if this exists still .

ahhh if only Contax Kyocera could change their mind and do a FULL FRAME DSLR ... just for us people from MF

i'm sure they'll read this ^.^

heeeeeeaaaaaar uuuuuuuussssss we want a Contax DSLR

Wink

I also realized that, but perhaps those lenses were no longer available when this poster was published. Question

Yes, either that (like the Vario-Sonnar 40-80), or not yet made, like the Vario-Sonnar 100-300 which is one of the last Contax lenses to enter the production line.

on all those lenses you will not find the label Contax, but only Zeiss
on the lenses boxes it is printed 'for Contax/Yashica mount' but it is only about the mount
so for the 'Contax myth', we should find a 'Contax bodies' poster Wink

Somehow I used to have a nice CONTAX product brochure, but found
1993 Contax/Yashica one. Here > http://www.pbase.com/kkawakami/acc_brocure_contax_catalogue

At 1993, many lenses were already out of stock: Sonnar 2.8/85, Sonnar
3.5/100, Planar 2/135, Vario-Sonnar 3.5/40-80, Vario-Sonnar 3.5/70-210.

And how about Tele-Tessar T* 200mm f/3.5?

It was ou of stock?

I'm asking this because I love this lens. Smile

The (later, and slightly worse) Tele-Tessar 4/200 is also missing.
Yes there are strange holes in the selection, not all apparently explaineable with the "out of catalogue" reason.

There was not mentioned for tele-tessar 200/3.5 in 1993 catalogue.
I do not know about this lens even its existence.

It is a nice lens, the best of all Tele-Tessars in my opinion.
Here's some pictures I took with it, camera was the 400D:

Very strong colour saturation, sharp, and note how good the bokeh.
Minus note, a bit CA and it does not have the "3D" of the Sonnar and Planar lenses.
