The Apo-Lanthar Trio

So today, I sort of completed the acquisition of the three Apo-Lanthars; 90/3.5 SL, 180/4 SL, and Macro Apo-Lanthar 125/2.5.

Unfortunately, I never came across the PK version of the Macro Apo-Lanthar in the past several months I've been looking for it, so I just went ahead and got the M42 version. The other two are PK. It's good because I can use it on my 5D as well, but since I'd probably only use it on my K-7 (has built-in IS, has Live View, better colors, better LCD, etc. etc.), the lack of the "A-mode" is a bummer. If anybody wants to swap your PK version for this M42 version, let me know Very Happy

I'll post some test shots in the next couple days, as soon as we get some good weather here in Boston.

Thanks!! I have my hopes, since M42 is more versatile, perhaps people moving from the Pentax system to some other system may be interested. Which reminds me, I should probably put the offer up in the marketplace as well Smile

What a great sight! Shocked

I will probably get the 125/2.5 in PKA mount. I have been persuading the seller for more than a year (he went to another system but never wanted to sell the Apo-Lanthar; this may change as last week I got an e-mail from him... But swapping for a M42 version? Don't think so Wink)

COngrats, a very fine set!! I had all three of them, but let go teh 90mm and 180mm to keep the finest, the 125mm.

Had I know that you're after the PKA version, I could have helped. I have seen several and let them pass...

Thanks everybody Smile

Here are a couple shots I took today with the Macro Apo-Lanthar. Regardless of the mount, it is a damn fine lens Very Happy

Check out the last pic, which was stopped down to f4 or so... the bokeh circles made by the 9-blade aperture are fantastic Very Happy

Mmmmmmm............yummy Very Happy

I think you will find that M42 mount lens to be quite a bit more valuable as time goes by.
Do you have a line on another one ?

Perhaps so, perhaps so.

And no, this was purchased Used-but-Mint on the Japanese auction site, Yahoo! Auctions. I've seen a few Canon and Nikon mount ones there in the past few months I'd been on the lookout, but this was the first one with a mount adaptable to Pentax K (and of course, by extension, also to my 5D). FYI, I won it for 80,000 yen, which is currently about $850US.

Wow, congrats for having three of the most wonderful telephoto lenses ever made. Smile

I'm still looking for the 90/2.5, then I'll be joining you in the "having all three apo-lanthars"-club. Laughing

The 3.5/90 is available new at Cameraquest.
He has all the hoods also. I just bought s hood for my 3.5/90 from CQ.

Cameraquest are too expensive I think... And wrong mount, I prefer M42.
But hm, if the PK version doesn't hit the mirror on 5D, maybe that would be an alternetive after all...

One is company, two is fun and three is a party." I think it was Andy Warhol who said that?

While some may see this as slightly overkill I can assure you this is nothing. Today, I had the pleasure to exchange emails with a gentleman who kindly supplied me some data for my lens serial survey ( http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic,p,214921.html )

This is his personal collection of APO-Lanthars...

While I agree that's an impressive collection, it's nothing lustworthy, cuz they're just dupes of the same 3 lenses that I had (I've since let go of the 180/4).

Show me a collection with ALL Voigtländer Apo-Lanthars past & present, and I will be droooooooooling on the floor Smile

Interestingly, all those lenses are the first of their production batch, the last two digits are sensored but it still places all of them within the first 99 copies ever manufactured.

I have no doubt such collections exist. I am equally sure the lenses in such a collection see no other use than sitting on the shelf Smile
