My latest purchase:

I was after this lens for a long time, but could only find it in Exakta mount, or in Japan or USA. Now that I have ordered an Exakta adapter, I searched again for it, found a fungused Exakta copy and this M42 copy that looks mint. The price could be better, but well it's Christmas time after all.

This lens seems to be popular in Asia. In fact, what made me decide to look for it were these images:

I loved the combination of sharpness and bokeh, I will let you know bout my results when I get the lens.

Congratulations!

Yes, this one, chipped for FA:

The price was nice, considering that until not long ago these adapters costed more than 100 Euros non-FA-chipped.

Me too, but I have a slight problem: an Exakta adapter, but no Exakta lens to be adapter Rolling Eyes

I am glad you got good info before bid!

Yes, most EXA lenses have the little button/handle at the side. And those don't work with this adapter, so the seller says.

But you should find a nice EXA lens without this handle on ebay for a good price. Look for a CZJ Tessar 2.8/50.

This lens is not semi-automatic lens, normal manual lens it will works with you adapter without any difficulties.

Attila says it?'s possible to remove the bulge part - am I understanding correctly Attila?

Yes possible.

I have done this too, although I later refitted the mechanism.

Leaves a hole in the mount that you need to cover up though.

I can supply instructions on how to do it.

Thanks Bob.
I think I will try first with a "normal" Exakta lens.
if the adapter behaves correctly as the seller claims (infinite focus and all), then I may try other exakta lenses including some bulge ones. I'll call for help if needed.

OK Orio - by the way, the mod is completely reversible albeit very fiddly in the case of the refitting of the stop-down actuating arm tension spring.

Remove only if necessary I am not sure it is necessary. It works fine on my E-1

@Attila: It's the front bulge on the Canon pentaprism housing that causes the problems - it sticks out quite a bit in the case of the 5D.

Ah I see this is not good news..

Really?
On my 5D I can mount the Helios-40 with it's awkward tripod mount - something I can not do on the 400D.

When I got my M42-EOS adapter, the second thing I tried with it after the first and most obvious use was to test fit an Exakta lens to it, specifically one with the bulge, and mounted as it would be on an Exakta with the bulge at 2 o'clock to ensure the lens markings were aligned at the top.

When rotating the lens to simulate fitting, the bulge didn't clear the 5D's pentaprism and that was at the normal M42 register distance.

Since the Exakta register is 0.7mm less, the bulge will definitely not clear the prism unless it is removed.

The lens has arrived. It is one of my most beautiful lenses aesthetically.
As for performance, it is very similar to the Trioplan, as it is also a triplet lens.
This means slightly flaring wide open and quite sharp stopped down.
Here's a sample image at f/8, whole resized:

And a crop of 100%, not sharpened:

I will need to build a cardboard hood, as the lens does not have a filter thread and the single (or perhaps no-) coating leaves way open to large flaring in difficult light position.
