Some from Piacenza

Today I had to go to Piacenza so I took the cameras with me and a couple of lenses to shoot a couple pictures after lunch.
I went to the main square (Piazza Cavalli, place of the Horses), where last year I photographed the Christmas markets.
The Farnese horses statues were all wrapped up for restoration, unfortunately, because today the light was excellent for them. Sad
So I took some quick pics anyway, most of them are with the Distagon 1.4/35, except the last two which are from tele lenses:

Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35

That was only temporary. Today we have fog and can not see the sky Sad

Glad you liked them Carsten. There was a great light yesterday, that made everything look magical. And difficult pictures like #4 taken without any flare protection make me very happy of what I can achieve with my manual lenses. Backlight pictures as good as this one were just a dream with my autofocus lenses, at least those that I could afford. Zeiss coating is not something I would want to give up anymore.

Thanks for these fine shots - better weather than here (although to be fair yesterday we had an hour of sun first thing!).

That Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35 is sharp!

I looked at the satellite, today it's your turn it seems - no clouds over Britain, while here we're covered by fog.

Yes. And it's not the only quality. That is a lens I will never part myself from.

I took my new 50mm f1.4 AI Nikkor out at lunchtime, and at ISO 200 I was getting 1/100th at 1.4... Sad

Right so! I just have cross-checked in the latest edition of the FM lens test list:
Your lens has been tested as one of the best 35mm lenses ever!
(Optical Performance: 9.6/10, built: 10/10)

Just for comparison:
Leica Summilux-R 1.4/35: 9.6 and 10 (€ 3350,-) !!!
Leica Summicron-R 2.0/35: 9.4 and 9.5 (€ 2050,-)
Minolta AF 1.4/35 G: 8.8 and 10 (€ 1410,-)
Nikkor AF 1.4/28 D: 9.4 and 9.6 (€ 2850,-)

Congratulations to such a high-end lens, Orio!

And, although we always emphsize that we have to like a lens, a confirmation by a professional test lab is not bad, is it? Wink

Orio

What a lovely city and so well presented. That is just a lens to die for, no wonder you love it so. This forum is sooooo bad for my wallet. But I have a bunch of lenses waiting for a tryout... and today we also have fog

Great series, Orio! So when are you going to shoot these with a good
lens? Laughing Yeah, Distagon, Planar, I'll have to content myself with
Yashica ML lenses for a little while longer. Wink

You have a Helios-40 now, it is every inch as good as the best Zeiss or Leica lenses - believe me:
http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic.php?t=206
Except the first two, the other eight are all taken with the Helios-40-2, which is virtually identical to the Helios-40 (there is a very slight difference in resolving power, but in real life situations 99% of the times it will be imperceptible).
I would not have been able to make better photos than those if I used a Zeiss or Leica.
