I am just curious has anyone ever seen this lens before?

Yes, was available under many brands.
Still dont know the maker.
Note that this one is a YS mount apparently, which narrows the possibilities.
I have suspected Sigma (early days for them).

I saw the YS and wondered about Sigma,it is the first time I had seen this focal length in the soligor brand.

I would rather say SUN

It is a very interesting lens. And I agree with you: the lens has the look and "feel" of a Sun lens.

This is, for me, an instructive thread because I cannot recall seeing prior a Soligor-branded lens in YS.

I have a Polaris brand in m42, the mount is attached with only three screws.

Another one of these lenses has surfaced and is available for not too much money:

Seller is claiming m42. I cannot see it, and I have no clue what that mount is.

Regardless, this lens continues to look to me like a Sun. Not a preset but has a nice M-A switch so still very usable.

When I first saw this lens today I thought it was unusual. Then I found mo's thread, here.

Course if this latest example is YS then it will work with any camera body. But I cannot see YS on this one, either. That mount looks more like some sort of kluge. Smile

Miranda mount on that one.

Could also this be a Tamron made Soligor?!?
(I don`t see any T prefix, but this might be a later model?)
Look how similar it is to my Tamron

Anything is possible with these old MF lenses. But I have such a strong feeling this lens is made by Sun.

Of course be it Tamron or Sun . . . both very good lenses! Very Happy

Thanks. I wondered what that was. Surely didn't look like m42.

I had a Hanimex 100-200 that was virtually identical to this Soligor.

It was awful.

I just don't see the attraction of these early zooms, I've had a few and only one was even acceptable, the rest were rubbish.

My experience with these early zooms (not this one, haven't got one yet) is not at all bad.

Depends on ones intentions and expectations of course.

You can certainly get a better modern lens, but some of these will surprise you.
They are not entirely historical curiosities.

The old Tamron 200-400 preset is as good as any number of 400mm primes, for one.
The 75-230/4.5 preset. sold as a Yashinon, but I think may be a very early Sigma, is monstrous but very good by any reasonable standard.
