Schneider Tele-Xenar Electric 3,5/135

I got this lens for what looks a decent price - at least compared to the other Schneider lenses which I notice on auction and all end up above the 100 Eur.

It is the first Schneider lens that I am able to get after the Xenar 2.8/50 I got years ago (and was not good, lot of flare, maybe hazy).

Practically I can say this is my first "real" Schneider lens.

Anyone would share opinion, images etc. ?
What type of optical scheme it has? I could not find about it on Google.

I saw pictures taken with this lens I remember same like CZJ Sonnar 135mm.

Hi,

I have the "probable" father of your lens, a Xenar 135/4 in Retina mount ...
I have used it on my K10D (sorry, don't have some pics available right now), with the adapter from Alex, and the results are not so bad: good sharpness and nice bokeh, but showing some green CA, even when stopped down to f/8 (didn't test smaller apertures). I didn't push my tests further because i got the Steinheil 135/2.8 a little time after, and since then i have almost forgotten my others 135mm ... As Attila said, the colors rendering were the same style as my Sonnar 135/3.5 ...

Sorry for the poor help ...

Cheers

I have this lens in M42 edixa dedicated and Deckel version too . The electric version is the practika one with "electrical" diaph values transmission .
I like this lens , and it is true that results looks like Czj Sonnar , however softer. Here is a sample on film, full aperture , Konica VX400 , Minolta XE5 body.

My isco tele-westanar 3,5/135 seems to be very close to this lens ... Smile

I guess the Electro version is not very different from my "non-Electro" QBM copy.

Hi.

The version QBM of the Tele Xenar is a very different lens than the M42 one.

The rollei is a 5 elements (3-2) design with better CA and color correction, and better borders too. Better to CZJ 3,5.

The M42, till I know, is a 4 element (3-1). The electric should be the same than the supplied to edixa system in M42.

With the M42 I hoped more IQ but the copy (N° 11.xxx.xxx) that I used was almost an average one. Less contrast than the MC CZJ.

In M42 the best, to my taste, is the steinheil 2,8 (I want it, specially the "D" version).

The retina (SRL) tele xenar 4/135 is a different design than the others tele xenars. It was designed for a cam that not had a tele lens open wider than F/4 'cos the limitations of the cam design (80/4, 135/4, 200/4,Cool.

The M42 and the Retina SRL version were contemporaries.

Rino.

I have the m42 version (No electric). My experience with this lens is positive.
Contrast has not been a problem except when shooting against the sun, without a hood. Can't pick a winner between this and the CZJ Sonnar.
I have no experience with the steinheil though.

My lens,

Contrast, resolution, bokeh.

Chromatic aberations seems pretty well controlled.

Seems that there are mixed experiences, so I hope you get a good copy.

Here are 12 pictures with the non-electric version:

You can also go to the Schneider archive and download an old information leaflet:

http://www.schneiderkreuznach.com/archiv/archiv.htm

You find the lense where it says:
Wechselobjektive
für Edixa-Kameras (9/66) CURTAGON 4/28, CURTAGON 2,8/35,
PA-CURTAGON 4/28,
XENON 1,9/50, XENAR 2,8/50,
TELE-XENAR 3,5/135, TELE-XENAR 5,5/200,
TELE-XENAR 5,5/360,
VARIOGON 2,8/45-100, TELE-VARIOGON 4/80-240

It is not exactly the same type, non-electric for Edixa, but I guess it has the same construction (5 lenses in four groups).

With the retina lenses, the aperture ring is at the camera. Let the adapter move the aperture in the lens or it only can be used at wide open?

Yes, you are right, great site. But I saw an edixa tele xenar with 4 elements. Wormhandler's is 1956/1959 lens. Perhaps with the time the formula have changed. In 1966 the lens just had 5 elements (very good one).

What nice pics. Congrat.

Great colours.

And not a MC lens!! (near 1971/2 model).

The lens has arrived, and my first tests show a great quality lens!
Very sharp wide open. Bokeh is quite unusual, surely not calm, but I sort of like it.
Plenty of 3D for a 135mm lens!
Only negative thing, some green CA in the OOF objects at wide open.

I have one in silver paint like badgerhill's and it worth for all my buck.

I paid only 19.99 USD but invest in adaptor to Canon EOS and I love it because I can find the unexpensive Schneider and Voigtlander lens for it.

Sample from this lens with Canon 10D.
