Many think it has the best bokeh of modern day lenses.

If your goal instead is sharpness, better to go for a Jupiter-37 or a SMC Takumar

Or even a CZ Sonnar 135mm 3.5

But Pentacon is very interesting too.

Sure, but I was mentioning lenses in the same price range as the Pentacon.

How much is that? The CZJ Sonnar is also very affordable. I bought mine for 50€+shipping.

Yours was a very low price for the CZJ 135/3.5
It normally costs from 80 to 100 Euros.
The Pentacon 135 (I'm speaking of the multicoated version) can range from 25 to 50-60 Euros depending on condition.

The 15 blade preset is known for the bokeh. I'm not sure the MC version will be as good as it has fewer blades. The early preset is almost as much as the CZJ.

How about an SMC Tak? Only slightly more than the MC Pentacon.

I got my CZJ for 50 GBP and SMC Takumar for 30GBP. Both are sharper than Pentacons. Bokeh on the CZJ is good.

What are you using the lens for? It's like a 216mm lens on a 40D. A bit long for portraits.

I used a Pentacon 135mm electric (not the Zebra version) and it also has 15blades.

Are you sure? I think the Electrics had only 6 blades.

The M42 site also lists 6: http://m42.artlimited.net/lens_detail.php?lid=315

I guess it wasn't the electric version, but it wasn't the zebra version too. And it had 15 blades Wink

there exist at least two mainly black (means not zebra) versions of the Preset Pentacon 2.8/135

I'm really impressed by the sharpness of my Pentacon. If I read that the Takumar and the Jupiter are even sharper I can only say: damn, those old lenses are fabulous Laughing

Electric means with Praktica VLC or PLC cameras you will have TTL light metering on DSLR body with adapter doesn't matter.

The Preset Pentacon 135 2.8 is a great lens but the word is out and you would be hard pressed to find one under $80.00 these days. I still think the performance of the lens is well worth it.

You should check ebay.de. Most sellers do ship iternationally and the prices are about €30.- for samples in real good condition!
