and extension tubes - hand-held (400D):

Note the bokeh...

Excellent!

The bokeh is just unbelievable.
I think it's the best I have found in modern day lenses.

But this kind of pictures based on red colour, makes me always long for a camera with a Foveon sensor.
The CCD and CMOS sensors handle the red colours with too little resolution.

Nice shot! So Orio wants to get a Seeg-mah? Don't they have the same
mount as Nee-kahn? Thought they did...

I would love a Foveon camera, but not necessarily the Sigma.
Lens compatibility is also a big concern. What good would a Foveon camera if i could not mount my best lenses on it?

What other camera has the Foveon sensor?

The only one I came up with that has the X3 sensor is Sigma SD14. I
think they have sole rights to that sensor. Which they are also using in
certain models of their point and shoots.

For the moment, none that I know of.

You need to break into the Foveon factory and steal some of these
sensors. Then you can build the digital camera equivalent to Professor
Fate's "Hannibal Twin 8" (from Blake's "The Great Race"). Laughing

Thank you guys. When I approach this kind of photograph (all kind of photograph, to tell the truth, but especially this one), I try to do it "my way". Which does not mean to invent anything (I surely did not invent bokeh), rather, to choose a combination of style and framing that I feel closer to me, regardless. What I am trying to say is, I am not trying to copy the way it is done in National Geographic or Focus (magazines which I admire, by the way). Sometimes I succeed, most times I don't. This times wasn't bad I think Smile

Yeah, you got really lucky this time! Very nice! When I approach a flower
to photograph, it suddenly turns black and fall off its stem...what does
this mean? Laughing

I want info on those extension tubes, what length, I'm sure they are 52mm, M42. Thanks.

Bill

I bought them a couple of months ago for the bankrupting price of Euros 8.00 Laughing they are an unknown brand (Elicar) and come in 3 different pieces that can be combined, they do not carry any information about the lenght but I would say it's standard.
And yes they're M42.

I just won a set of Zeiss Ikon M42 extension tubes (seller is from Canada
so will take a while to get here) but what I'd like to know, Orio, is what
the minimum focusing distance you get with the J37A using tubes. I hope
to use this for maybe taking fish pics:

This was with a Viv 100mm macro I no longer have. Pic was taken
with a Nikon D50 last November (just got around to cleaning up some
of the images I took last winter).

The optics in the J37A I think might cook the Viv, at least I'm hoping so,
and seeing your pic is very encouraging!

Bill

I don't know precisely (I should measure), but it should get you close enough for fish about 5 cms lenght

I think so too.

That's great! The fish I have run from 5-7cms.
