Does anyone have any comments or advice for me about this Russian equivalent of the Pentacon Six. With the problems of overlapping and quite high prices of the Pentacon, I am wondering if this might be a better choice. I was looking at this nice example, hopefully it might be relisted Click here to see on Ebay

Kiev-60 is low quality copy of Pentacon Six overall build quality is worst than P6 you have more chance to get error than with P6.

You can buy flocking kits to fit inside the Kiev 60 body to cut down reflections.

The fact that these kits exist and that you may have to fit them,
may say something.... Confused

Unfortunately decent and reliable medium format SLRs don't come cheap. Sad

Anyway Pentacon-sixes (?) don't come much expensive either usually - I got my second one for 40 or 50 Euros if I remember correctly.
OK they are no Mamyia nor Contax nor Pentax... but are not total junk either.

I think the best way to avoid the frame spacing problems of the Pentacon Six is to look for a Praktisix. The Praktisix had a simpler film counter system, which may not give perfectly equal spacing of the frames but is not subject to the system failures that sometimes occur in the later model. I think the main reason they changed the system was to make the camera work with 220 film; if you only use 120, I like the Praktisix better.

There is the Exakta 66 which has, I think, the same mount as P6/Kiev60.

and a manual (PDF file)

Unfortunately the Arax cameras (Kiev 88 but with P6 mount as I can see) are expensive and I don't know how reliable ? http://www.araxfoto.com/cameras/

The Exakta 66 does have the same lens mount. However, I think it also has the same frame counter and everything else, it's basically nothing but a Pentacon Six with a stylish rubber covering and a higher price tag.
