I’d never heard of this lens before. Helios 28mm, F2.8, M42 mount, Auto-Manual switch I think it’s fairly new, no factory symbols on the side, may be a re-labeled something else. If anyone knows about this lens, please let me know.
It came today, late in the afternoon so I went outside and took a few shots at f5.6, this one of my daughters tire swing.
And the 100% blowup no sharpening.
I am testing it with a few other not usually tested 28mm lenses soon . . on film . . .to get the true dimension of the lenses.

I'm afraid your lens is Japanese not Russian. Anyway as long as you can have fun with it, it's no problem! _________________ Orio, Administrator

Yes I thought it might not be Russian, but it is rather nice so I'll play with it a bit more.
Cheers

Helios lenses were manufactured probably by the sigma-sun group or ... cosina in the seventies with the apparition of Zenit-Em body able to receive automatic diaphragm lenses . However, in the seventies , automatic diaphragm Russian lenses didn't exist (only the helios 44-M) . Therefore , there was room for a complete lens gear ! They are sometimes engraved with the kmz mark , and it is said that kmz itself originated this japanese production . Later ,other "russian" brands appeared : "Zenitar" , and "Zeniton" : Zenitar are probably from cosina , since I possess a chinon, zenitar and cosinon 2,8/135mm which are physically identical ... "Zeniton" brand is more scarce.
A more authentic russian 28mm lens is the Kmz MIR-10 3,5/28 ...it is a preset lens ! Physically , russian lenses only look like ... russian lenses .
Orio tested this lens.
Hope it helped a few |

I've seen it. It looks very similar with Vivitar 2.8/28 (Komine). _________________ Olympus E-500 Olympus E-330
