Short but meaningful text by Erwin Puts where he describes the characteristic of the Contarex lenses, where the control of astigmatism and field flatness is the priority over the overall contrast - a tendency that was inverted with the Contax lenses and the Leica-R lenses as well, which push strong on the micro-contrast (the lower of the MTF lines), but pay a price with introduced astigmatism and lateral chromatic aberration:

It's a shame that Puts (whom I really respect a lot and like to read - despite his othographical flaws) has rearranged his website.
Now, we have to be really grateful for sites like the web archive!
