I've read conflicting reports about Digital Ice and Silverfast, and when I
used the 2450 I eschewed (sorry, sneezed) using Silverfast, even though
it was included. Would like to hear comments on Digital Ice, Silverfast,
if people are using them and results. I'm tempted to just stick with
Epson's propreitary software, like I did with the 2450.

I don't know Silverfast. Sounds like a product to clean the dishes Laughing

Jokes aside: ICE is good, but it's slow and to my opinion (others don't agree) is softens the image.

I personally prefer to not use ICE and do some hand corrections.
But if your slides are VERY dirty, hand corrections would require a lot of time, and then ICE comes in handy althought you'll want to do some little sharpening after it.

I had Silverfast SE bundled with my Epson 2450. I used it for a while, but it just didn't offer much for me. The SE version is the crippled version, so maybe the full version would be a viable piece of software.

Man, I frankly have pretty good results with using my Epson on Auto... Surprised I usually run it through Auto, and do any tweaking of problem areas with Photoshop.

Mainly, I really try to get the image the way I want it right in the camera though...to me, that is part of the challenge and fun of photography, though I use Photoshop to clone out dust spots and other imperfections. I'm not a big fan of HDR and other tweaks available in Photoshop.

Thanks, guys, I think I will stick with just the Epson software for now.

Larry, I'm not a fan of HDR, either. There's a girl, a fellow moderator on
APF that does these treatments to sylvan glades, waterfall studies, etc,
that look totally fake to me. Of course I don't tell her that. Laughing

Orio, I may have heard this first from you awhile back, but there's
another instance where the guy thought it took away detail in his pics
using Digital Ice, he wasn't very happy with it.

Bill, what is the APF? Is that another photography forum?

Larry, it's Aquatic Photography Forum where I'm one of the moderators
(heaven help us) Laughing We have close to 5400 members now. My nick
there is "chubasco"

I got Orio to join and he has some threads in the General Section, one of
the sections I moderate.

I haven't set up the new scanner yet, but will try Digital Ice. I have a
roll from one of my Oly 35RCs I'll be scanning as soon as the film
flattens out some more. This is my first try with Fujicolor 400 from good
ol' Walmart.

As a side note, I thought using Seattle Filmworks film back in the 80's and
90's was a good idea because it also made slides from the same roll.
Big, huge, mistake. Color cast is atrocious and the slides haven't aged
well in the 15 years since I've last seen them. Shocked Of course, that
film and Seattle Filmworks are no longer around, wonder why...
