I took this old reliable Exakta lens out on the K100D using the Exakta->Pentax K adapter

It doesn't focus to infinity of course, just down to about 12 feet/4m, but its useful regardless. The other awkward thing is because of the geometry of the whole system, the "arm" has to point directly down, though that just looks funny, it doesn't affect operation.

Anyway, it works just as well as any other 50mm lens on the DSLR, and it is in fact a notably sharp lens without any faults, good contast, a little flare (possibly because of some coating damage), nice bokeh, etc.

Nice results!
That is a very attractive lens. I really like the way it looks.
The first sample is my favorite. This young fella looks really in a good mood Smile
Happy children, happy lenses, Luis you provide a nice life for your loved ones Wink

Nice lens, Luis!.
I got one of those for my Exa-Exakta cameras, and when mounted on the 350D, it does focus to infinity. (In fact, it's the only one that currently does that among the 50mm ones I got!).
Where did you get the Exakta-PK adapter?.
Mine, (Exakta-EOS) is a thin piece of alu that mechanically doesn't seem very solid...
How is yours?.

Jes.

The child picture and the cactus picture prove this is a top class lens in spite of its deceptively appearance that makes it look similar to to other more consumer lenses.
I find very little 50mm, if any, sharper than the Pancolar. In my collection, only the Nikkor 1.4/50 is, while the Leica Summicron 50 is on par and both the Contax 1.4 and 1.7 Planar are less sharp.

One of Zeiss Jena's stand-out lenses - excellent work. Cool

@ Jes:

Where did you get your Exakta-EOS adapter, especially considering it allows infinity focus?

Very nice shots, I like the second cactus one very much.
It must have been difficult to shoot under such harsh light.

As Orio said, I think Pancloar 50mm is par with Summicron-R50 too.

Here is some info about Pancolar, Maybe you guys already know
about history of Pancolar 50mms.

The first one, Pancolar 50/1.8 and Flexon 50/1.8(?)

The second version Pancolar 50/1.8

The third version Pancolar 50/1.8 (this is later M42 and early Prakticar 50/1.8 version)

And an extra, Pancolar 55/1.4

Which Pancolar is the best? I do no have an answer, but wanted to use 55/1.4 someday.
The first version of 50/1.8 and 55/1.4 are all yellowed, I have heard.

In the casual way, the shame of the M42 pancolar is very, very similar to the summicron M - six elements minolta-leitz era.

And not in the casual way, both are in the first place of 50 mm lenses.

I have two pancolars Very Happy Very Happy

And sold the summicron-M Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Regards, Rino.

The Pancolar 1.8/50 is another one to consider adding to your lens arsenal Ron. Cool

No, I have all version. Newest are better, this is Luis and perhaps his Pentax. Pictures are significantly better than as usual.
