I bet the fault it's of the M42 adapter.
I have several M42 adapters and some of them mount the lens that way.
Of course being screw mount it's important the lenght of the thread.
My assumption is that cheap M42 adapters are built without really caring about this aspect.
Anyway this is not a dramatic problem. But if you want to have this fixed, buy a P6-EOS adapter. I got one from the USA and it works perfectly.

yes.. As Orio said... its an adapter issue. The position of thread "start" point to EOS mount point needs to be carefully kept (same).

Agree with that bad adapter.
I've bought mine from US, P6 to EOS.

Let us know how it goes for you. Are you happy with the 180 CZJ? Personally, it is one of the lenses that I love the most.

And it's a fast lens! 180mm with f2.8? Wow!

And, it's a real 2.8, not just for display
You can actually shoot 2.8 with it and get more than acceptable pictures.

I do not think he need to buy an other adapter. Do not understand what the problem is when the lens is turned 90° Smile
I have two copy, both of them is huge Smile Complicated to play with them because of their weight.

Both #2 and #3 are good in my opinion, because they tell a story.
But #2 has some very harsh colours and contrast, what has happened?

I call this the "wonky light syndrome" which occurs in late afternoon sun.
Laughing Still, not a bad pic...

This lens not bad, I have 3 ~

But At f2.8 seems a little bit soft.

I have two copies, of the MC type, and both are sharp wide open. Not as sharp as the Elmarit 180, but quite close. And with a better colour rendition than the Elmarit (in my taste, of course).
I think that the 180 Sonnar is, together with the Flek 4/20, the best lens ever made by Zeiss Jena.
