Shocked You didn't seriously do that, did you?

As far as I understand, you can only focus to close subjects with such a lens on a DSLR body, right?

I mean, the idea to use a Contax G-lens on a Nikon SLR is very tempting, but I would never potter about with such a wonderful piece of glass and then just be able to shoot macro shots...

You can achieve infinity focus easily, the conversion problem is not enough off_the_shelf helicoid is available. These are shot by modified G-sonnar 90/2.8.

His one seems to me done by a professional guy, it has a real helical mechanism.

This is a VERY drastic modification.

The machinist took off about 1cm of the lens barrel.

And they replaced the helical too ! Thats hardcore.

Koji, thanks for the link, there is a lot of interest there.

First someone post an image of a poor cat squished by cars, then this G-Contax lens traumatized.
So you want to see Orio falling in depression, confess!

On a more serious tone I'm not a fan of hardcore modifications like this one or, worse, the Biotar in the other thread.

Camera bodies come and go, lenses are here to stay.

Not only sad, it is also very stupid.
The Sonnar 90 is a good lens, but far from being a lens so exceptional that would push to do this type of idiot surgery.
Nikon has in their line, some tele lenses that are better than the Sonnar G.
The Nikkor 1.8/85 is better than the Sonnar G
The Nikkor 2.5/105 is MUCH better than the Sonnar G
So why spend a lot of money for a conversion of a lens that is worse than what you can find natively
for your camera at a lot inferior price?
This is the epitome of stupidity.

Well, everybody is free to do what he wants with his own lens of course but I'm agree with you, I don't know this lens but why doing this kind of (not reversible) conversion with such beautiful lens when you can get the same or even better quality with original Nikon mount lenses???!!!!
In addition I would say that jore has already some "few" lenses from this focal:

What an unbelievable collection Shocked .....
