I'm presuming those lenses I've used on my Canon EOS 5D will also work on my 6D. Interestingly though, the 6D has less metal between the mount and the mirror, so theoretically lenses with protruding parts to the bottom of the lens body are more likely to work on the 6D than the 5D / 5D II / 5D III. However, where glass sticks out, it is still likely to hit the mirror.
I'll keep this thread updated with test results!
Confirmed working lenses
Carl Zeiss Distagon 25/2.8 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Distagon 35/2.8 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Planar 85/1.4 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Sonnar 85/2.8 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135/2.8 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Tele-Tessar 200/3.5 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Tele-Tessar 300/4 (Yashica / Contax)
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 80-200/4 (Yashica/Contax)
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 100-300/4.5-5.6 (Yashica/Contax)
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 35-70/3.4 (Yashica/Contax)
Industar 50 (Zenit M39 - doesn't reach infinity due to register distance difference)
Industar 50-2 (M42)
Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50/2.8 (Exakta - doesn't reach infinity due to register distance difference)
Helios 44 (original black model, M42) - fine with a high quality Kipon adapter
Helios 44-M4 (M42) - fine with a high quality Kipon adapter
Yashica Yashinon-DS Auto 50/1.9 (M42)
Asahi Super Takumar 55/2 (M42)
Asahi Super Takumar 105/2.8 (M42)
Meyer Optik Domiplan 50/2.8 (M42)
Vivitar 28/1.9 (M42)
Soligor 35/2 (M42)
Pentacon 100/2.8 auto (M42)
Pentacon 135/2.8 preset (M42)
Pentacon 200/4 preset (M42)
Nikon Nikkor 55/1.2 (pre-ai)
Confirmed semi-working lenses
Meyer Optik Primoplan 58/1.9 (M42) - hits the mirror at infinity though (as with the 5D).
Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2 (alu version, M42) - touches the mirror at infinity, but still takes the photo (as with the 5D).
Yashica Yashinon-DX Auto 50/1.4 (alu version, M42) - touches the mirror at infinity though resulting in partial black image.
Carl Zeiss Tessar 45/2.8 AE (Yashica / Contax) - touches the mirror at far distances (slightly before infinity)
Confirmed non-working lenses
Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 35/2.4 MC (PB) - lens will now mount (unlike with the 5D), but mirror hits at all focal lengths
Note: I am now using a high quality Kipon adapter which is just about the perfect thickness. Some cheaper adapters seem to focus slightly past infinity, which causes some borderline lenses to hit the mirror. _________________ Graham - Moderator

This is what Henry and I thought as well when we saw the 6D at the Photokina. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

If you happen to find an adapter with MF confirmation chip that works with 5Diii and 6D (digic5 cameras), please let me know, all of my adapters but one do not work on my 5Diii.

I have an old HappyPageHK adapter which doesn't work with the 6D. But I generally use plain mechanical adapters as I've found the AF feature hopeless. _________________ Graham - Moderator

I'm in the market for a full frame dslr and I also really like the look of the C/Y lenses for both stills and video.
Not sure if this counts as a confirmed test, but someone at Flickr has posted photos taken with a 6D and apparently a planar t* 85mm 1.4
edit: For some reason I cant seem to post the link here. go to flickr and search for 'canon 6d contax zeiss' and it's the first series of pictures that come up by a user named 'edsrzo'

Hi all,
Does anyone know if the 1980s versions of the elmarit-R 28mm and the summicron-R 50mm will work on a canon 6d without hitting the mirror? The pebbleplace leica DB seems to suggest they are ok with the canon 5d, but I'm not sure if this can be extrapolated to the 6d as well.
Thanks! |
