Ok, not a real test, just for fun Smile
I made four couples of photos, wide open and stopped down, each for two lenses. Photos are not 100% identical position, like I say, it's just for fun, but they are close enough to allow comparison.
So you have four "matches" and in each, please pick one favourite couple, A or B.
PLease note that all As and Bs are not necessarily always the same lens. I mean that the lens that is A in one match, may be B in another match.

MATCH 1

LENS A, wide open then stopped down

LENS B, wide open then stopped down

MATCH 2

LENS A, wide open then stopped down

LENS B, wide open then stopped down

MATCH 3

LENS A, wide open then stopped down

LENS B, wide open then stopped down

MATCH 4

LENS A, wide open then stopped down

LENS B, wide open then stopped down

Please pick preferred couple for each match, and please don't focus only on one aspect (e.g. sharpness or bokeh) but give an overall appreciation judgement.

interesting results, so far!

I'm sitting in my institution office, not at home and I do not have a good display here.

So as far as I can say:
1B (I don't like how the A-lens renders the leaves of the ooF plant bottom left.)
2A
3A
4A
Main aspects for winning/losing a match were
- detail rendition
- highligh bokeh
- general impression

But it's really hard to tell from here. It might be different when I look at it at my home PC.

1A, 2B, 3A, 4B

Especially 1A, very nice and appeals to me overall, especially in the blue window bokeh.

4B has a nice 3-dimensional quality and the colors are just ever-so-slightly more "deep" than the others.

So far, we have had:

- 2 perfectly split verdicts (2-2)
- 1 "full house" verdict (4-0)
- 2 majority verdicts (3-1), but... one for each lens!

Laughing

really funny Smile I will make more Smile

OK, no more entries apparently, so here's the solution:

The two lenses are Flektogon 2.4/35 "aus Jena" and Distagon 2.8/35 AE version (I used the AE version because the comparison seemed more fair towards the Flek, as the two lenses are contemporary, while the MM version of Distagon, which I also have, is later, and probably better).

This was the distribution:

Flektogon : ABBB
Distagon : BAAA (obviously)

Congratulations to Carsten who was the only one to choose all 4 entries from one lens. It was not easy, especially not knowing the lenses. For me it's easy to tell one from the other, but I know both lenses well. To choose all 4 entries from one lens was NOT the purpose of the game, but still, it shows a good solidity of vision of aesthetical preferences.

Here's the results, subdivided:

Distagon 2 - 2 Flektogon (2 chosen each) = 2

- Richard (Flek-Dist-Flek-Dist)
- Andy (Flek-Flek-Dist-Dist)

Flektogon 3 - 1 Distagon = 1

- Laurence (Flek-Flek-Dist-Flek)

Distagon 3 - 1 Flektogon = 1

- poilu (Dist-Dist-Flek-Dist)

Distagon 4 - 0 Flektogon = 1

- Carsten

Preferences for each entry:

match 1 = Flek 3 Dist 2
match 2 = Dist 3 Flek 2
match 3 = Dist 3 Flek 2
match 4 = Dist 4 Flek 1

As you can see, all matches has been very close, except for the last one. No match was won to zero (loser always scored at least one point.

Total preferences:

Flektogon = 8 equal to 40%
Distagon = 12 equal to 60%

In the final count, the Distagon wins by 4 preferences which means 60% percentage.
I think we can call this a close match and the Flek surely held the comparison very well.

conclusion
- the flek is a very nice lens
- it is time for Carsten to invest in a few distagon

Now I can see the images better, but my preferences would be the same.

So it seems. Wink

coming back to this topic..
Does anyone have an idea if the close focusing distance of Distagon ?
And does it do a Macro magnification of 1:2 like flek ?

I remember seeing this post when I had the Flek. Now I've sold the Flek, and I've bought from Orio, the Distagon, and I think I was right.
It makes much more 3D and I think I will be easier manual focus.
El Flek 2.4/35 is great, but has very little depth of field. Great for architecture, buildings do not move. Laughing Laughing
