Beach Morning - Yashica Mat

Here's one I dredged up from the bottom of the drawer. It wasn't even in a protective sleeve, so I had to blow off the dust. Embarassed Believe it or not, I AM more organized than one might think from that statement. Laughing

The scanner is really "treating me well" these days, so I thought I'd run this transparency through the mill...

I sort of wish I had used Velvia for a bit more pop in the blue colors, but perhaps the Provia really shows a better facsimile of the light that morning.

I could always "add" color I guess, but I really hate to do that unless it's really necessary.

Platinum and Chromium - Second Beach
Yashica Mat 124
Yashinon 80/3.5
f:16 and 1/125th
Provia

Hi Laurence,
this is a great image and a great scan as well.
The color is fine in my opinion, more saturation would disturb the - in my opinion - perfect balance.

Just tell me when your first exhibition will start, for me this is great art! Smile

No Laurence, the colors are right as they are. Two really bad faults in pp are too much color and too much sharpening. You did well to leave it alone.

Hi, Laurence,

to my eyes you are certainly one of the best photographers in this group. Your pictures of ferns were already stunning, and this landscape is a picture to get lost into while looking at it. The composition, the colours, the atmosphere,
and the scan are just perfect.
My admiration
Thomas

The comp was sort of difficult, as at first I didn't
want the driftwood root in the picture. But after thinking about it
for a while, I felt it would work.

A nice comment[/i], thank you! I have no exhibitions, but I am getting
a web site ready. Yours and others inspirational comments tell me
that my photography is no worse than others, so I'm going to
plunge into the web.

Yes, the colors are actually very close to what I saw.

And...quiet! Even the surf was gentle that morning!

Thomas, it's the scenery that shines, I am lucky to have
this kind of scenery. And really, all I have to do is point
the camera!

As always are you showing a beautiful image.

Beautiful. Moments like this pass quick, you have to be there at the right time.

Makes me think of when my wife, the dogs and I are camping by the water. We always are up not much after daylight and once in a while see a beautiful scene like this.

I think the colors are perfect as they are too. Maybe a small change wouldn't hurt but it wouldn't make it better either. Provia is really faithful for natural light.

By the way, how did you meter for this shot?

Wow! I'm overwhelmed. Embarassed

You guys give me a lot of encouragement, and it feels good to think that my images are well liked here. I totally appreciate it, and I certainly love any suggestions on improving.

Thank you all very much.

For the one question by Naplam: How did you meter for this shot?
Naplam, I used Sunny 16 here, as my meter on the Pentax had been acting up from very low batteries. Confused

Just basically set the exposure and speed to knowing that "full sun" would be the reciprocal of the film speed at f:16.

Following the steps, and knowing that I only wanted to "meter" for the bright light it was simply using the 100 speed of the provia at 1/125th.
