I am looking at a lens that honestly I have never seen before: an "Agfa Color Multi-Coated Vario 35-100mm 3.5-4.5". This one is in PK mount. I was aware of Agfa as a company who made film and camera's, but didn't know they made lenses (or, had third party lenses with their name on them).

Doing a search has turned up a few lenses, but I haven't really been able to find much and nothing at all on a 35-100mm.

Anyone have any info on these?

Regards, C.

It is probably the same as the Revuenon 35-100 3.5-4.5 and Chinon 35-100mm 3.5-4.3. There will be other brands as well. Japanese lens for K-mount camera's that were made by Cosina and /or Chinon and sold under many different brands.

Discussed here: http://forum.mflenses.com/chinon-35-100-f3-5-4-3-t70226.html

If you are looking for a good lens in this range I can recommend the SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm 1:3.5.

Thank you for the recommendation. Yes, I am keeping my eye open for something in that range. I own an Olympus E-M1 Mk.II (2x crop factor), so this would be for something in the "70-210mm" range. Needs to be manual focus of course. preferably not too heavy, and I dislike "one touch" zooms, which narrows the options a bit.

Regards, Christine

It seems that most of these lenses are one touch. The Canon FD (beware of the plastic bearings problem with those) and the Pentax-A, a Tokina 35-105mm 3.5 which looks a bit Like that Agfa/Revuenon Chinon are two touch. But all of them quite large and thus heavy, which is needed for the 3.5 aperture. You are looking at around 600 grams for Canon or Pentax. Tokina or Revuenon more like 700 grams. A one touch variable aperture lens can be found for less then 450 grams. of those the major brands are probably the best options for build quality and IQ.

A good lighter weight option might be the Pentax-F 35-105mm F4-5.6 It is a sharp lens if not very bright. Also it is AF so you have a narrow focussing ring and a short focus throw. But it weighs substantially less than it's manual counterparts. 345 grams and is more compact, just 7.1 cm at 35mm. On my K-1 focus is very fast for a screwdrive lens. Noisy though, but not when you focus manually. I recently got it and thought Iq was pretty nice. https://www.flickr.com/photos/randomdump/albums/72157719937820559

Yes, I was just looking at that. This is one of the "in a pinch" reasons I was thinking of in my other post about screwdrive lenses you just answered. For example I own a Minolta-AF 100-300mm lens that is around 450 grams.

The Nikkor AF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 will probably be a lot easier to find, than the Pentax and is also a good lens from what I've seen. No expericence with it though.

No info ad the zoom, but Agfa bought the lensmaker Staeble which produced optics for them as well as for Novoflex.

Cimko (Cima Kogaku) made
Agfa sold during a short period reflex (made by cosina) and the lenses to go with

Just got a Panagor 35-100mm 1:3.5 in this range. With luck it will arrive tomorrow, but more likely after Christmas. I can't find any similar lenses from Vivitar or Soligor, but I think it's made by Komine

Not my copy which is K-mount

There is another one on Marktplaats but the guy want's 150 euro for it. So he's never going to sell that (I'm the only Panagor collector I know :p), especially since it is FD mount, but it does come with a leaflet and the original box. There is a diagram on it:

14 elements in 12 groups. Don't now why it Says EF, It is clearly FD by serial it is from 1979 and EF mount wasn't even around until 87. Too bad about the 1.8m CFD

The Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm 1:2.8-3.5 also has a 14/12 design which looks related to this one, so I guess Komine isn't such a bad guess:

Obviously a more complicated zoom to allow for macro shooting.

Yes, it's confusing.
The answer is, in the 1970s Canon sold an FD mount SLR called the "EF" :

Yeah but those are two touch and have a close focussing mechanism and variable aperture. This is one touch fixed focus no macro setting. My money is on Komine because of the close relation Panagor/Jaca had with them. It's character is a bit like the Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm 1:2.8-3.5. Bokeh also very smooth lacking sharp edges.
