A day with Nikos

Today I met Nikos at Bergamo airport, then we went to the lake of Como.
I don't post landscape images here (don't have the time) except for one, which I think is my best one of the day, I post it now as a preview,
it also exceptionally got a name (I usually hate naming pictures), but I liked the concept so much, it had to have the name: "Painted Windows".
I made it in true Caligari style! Very Happy

Distagon 3.5/15

These are the Pizzoccheri we had for lunch (sorry for the shallow DOF, but there was dark inside the café):
Vario-Sonnar 28-85

And these are photos that I took of Nikos:

Distagon 2/28 (backfocused in the hurry)

Distagon 3.5/15

Distagon 1.4/35

Rollei Planar 1.4/85

Rollei Planar 1.4/85

Leica Summicron-R 2/50

Nice pics!!! the Pizzoccheri looks tasty...

The weather didn't you any favor Wink as I see !!

Orio , I see you are more and more using the summicron 50 than the Planar? What is happening ?!?!? Laughing

Niko, is this a L lens! ....that's a sacrilege!!! Laughing Laughing

Unfortunately, today I could not go to Bergamo to meet Nikos again, because of this:

Talk about bad timing of the season Mad

Nice to see you Nikos! Timing looks same than I did visit you Sad there was tons of rain now snow Sad

What L lens???
Don't you recognize the 2/135 Planar?

Actually I had an L lens with me: the 17mm tilt-shift, a manual lens Razz

I am now inside Orio Center of Orio al Serio airport, waiting to take off.
Definitely an Orio weekend Smile

Thanks!
I'm very happy with this image. I think the 15mm distortion adds to it, because the house itself is skewed and really looks like a cardboard background from Dr. Caligari.
Also the painted windows, are wonderful, in my opinion: out of proportions, out of logic... they are like a logical accident of reality.
And at the same time, connected to the most ancient tradition of Italic house decoration: the "trompe-l'oeil" was invented by the Romans, who decorated this way the interiors of their villas, to simulate gardens, landscapes... obviously the authors of this masterpiece did not surely have in mind this ancient tradition... yet it's curious how they "stayed in the line" unknowingly.

P.S: note, that there is also a fake balcony Very Happy

I was wondering if this also to have a balcony Laughing
Did Nikos attempt the same shot with his PC lens, be interesting to know?

It's an extraordinary lens. Canon had to give up autofocus to finally make one that is worth Twisted Evil Laughing Razz

Great series Orio. Looks as though you and Nikos had a grand time. Quite stunning glass between the two of you!

Who are the brothers to have a street named after them?

I did not know them, so I found them on Google, it seems they were painters of the XVII century, born in the area of the lake. I found this little page only:

Great to see the results of MFL members getting together, and there's some serious hardware on view and in use!

Unfortunately I tried this photo with the Distagon 21mm.
We were in a hurry and I had just unmounted the 17mm TS.

But we were shooting for quite some time in the same spot.
Orio with the 15mm Distagon and I with the TS.
So we will find a scene to compare.

When I return home from work I will make a post with my photos:
"A day with Orio" Laughing Laughing

Orio, Painted Windows - is that one photographed in Brunate? The fence/railing Nikos is standing on also looks very familiar to me (I spent a weekend there in October 2005).

Very beautiful.

They both are in Moltrasio.
We've only been in two villages, Moltrasio and Cernobbio. Winter short light only allowed that much Sad

Your lunch looks delicious indeed.

Super caloric. Laughing It's the typical Lombardy mountain food. Like, you go out skying all day, burn a lot of energy and take a lot of cold air, then come back to the cabin, sit by the fireplace, and eat a big dish of Pizzoccheri and you have recovered all your calories and stored more! Laughing
