Takumar..just joking. well, the lens does exist, but it hardly ever had been spotted. I saw one once offered in Japan, had downloaded the pics of it ( Embarassed ) now these are shown at the Pentaxforum M42 lens data base: http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Takumar-100mm-F2.html
there was a thread once here about it too: http://forum.mflenses.com/takumar-100-2-t36018.html
( right, proving to him that this lens existed earlier I had sent 'Mal' the pics and the price it sold for that he posted )

you may look for nikon ais 105mm f1.8 as well. It is one of the easier to find.
The best 100mm f2 I have used is Carl Zeiss 100/2 C/Y (not macro).

There's an 100/2 Cyclop (no aperture), not sure what it's like (never tried). But last I tried Google can't seem to tell me which "normal" (aperture-having) lens it might've been derived from?

It is pretty unique on its own.

I saw very good pictures taken with the MC Minolta Rokkor 2/100 here, in this forum.

In artaphot and eazypix there are some details of it.

Should be a collector item, I know, but an user one too.

Horacio.

For lenses like 100/2, AF lens in native mount, if exists, may well turn out to be competitive in pricing and superior in quality.

They are fairly easily available, but at insane prices.

Do you really need an f/2.0?

There are plenty of really good 2.8/100 lenses around, for rather little money. And, hey, it's just one stop!

An kind of "secret tip" is the Tokina-made Vivitar 2.8/100!!

Do you absolutely need a 100mm f/2 lens? There weren't too many made, and those that were are extremely expensive today (e.g. the excellent Olympus Zuiko 100/2 or the Carl Zeiss version). Selection of good 90mm f/2 or 85mm f/2 or f/1.8 lenses is much wider. If you can spare the 10mm focal length, you can have the excellent Leica R 90/2, or either Pentax or Nikkor 85/2 on the cheap, or the super-sharp Minolta MD Rokkor 85/2 (an excellent lens, one of the best I ever used, much better than either Pentax or Nikon attempts).

Go for the $50 Sankor 105mm f/2.5!
It is as good as all the legendary lenses mentioned IMHO.

Kinoptic Apochromat

Off the top of my head :

Canon FD 100/2
Canon ltm 100/2
Zeiss 100/2 (makro)
Olympus 100/2 (macro)

a bit off
Nikon 105/2.5 ltm/s-mount (sonnar design )
Nikon 105/2.5 (planar design) (there is also an earlier version which is based on the ltm sonnar)

Takumar 100/2

I have the FD, Nikon ltm and the Takumar.
The Takumar is special of course, so it takes special spot among them.
The Canon FD is cheap and no lack in performance (only thing not my preference is the color tends to be cooler)
Nikon ltm is easily a favorite for being easy to find, nice sonnar look but better than 85mm (J9) and 50mm (J8, J3) from wide open, nicely built.

Optical performance wise, I have never bothered to compare them.
Being 100mm, they are generally nice imo.

Almost all the sankors 13/2,8's images I saw, are plenty of CA.

The 105 is different? Both have the same formula, I guess.

+100.000.000.000 and so.

Please, add the Apochromat 150 too.

And, if you can, the macro switar 50/1,9.

WOW!!!!!

The 105mm is a jewel, much better than the 135mm which is avarage Wink

Since you are only asking what are the choices for 100mm f2 lens, I will throw in one more for your choice, not that it could even compete with a Zeiss or Takumar or Kinoptic or Rokkor, etc.

Soligor 100/2 - Cheap if you can find one, I have tried a few and haze is a common problem for this lens not sure why. Image results are not bad at all imo but not exceptional as well. I would stick to my trusty Nikon 105 f2.5 simple as that. Probably lighter and smaller than most 100/2 though I guess.

Btw, I guess one of the cheapest 100/2 with a lot on the market is the Canon EF 100/2 if you use Canon or Sony FE/NEX or other mirrorless. But it often boils down to the question, do you need a 100/2? People often argue why not the EF 85/1.8? Or why not aim higher and go for the 135/2L? Hence the 100/2 I think is kind of stuck in between and not as popular as the 85/1.8s or 1.4s or 135/2 and so on? Don't know.

The Alpa mount Kinoptic 100 seems more compact than the earlier ones, while the 150 is too cumbersome to use. Both lensheads can be detached and fitted to other cameras. The Kern Switar is fine, but even the M42 version hits the mirror on my Canon 5ii at infinity focus.
