Sold my Zenit-S. All was fine until then. Zenit returned, buyer declared cam not working. So it was. The shutter still works but the mirror is stuck.
Any help? I must repair - this camera wanted to return that I keep it I think.

Page 141 starts Zenit C. It is sort of modular structure so it might be not so difficult?

Stupid question- but is the string that pulls the shutter back down snapped? That is the usual suspect |

Good question! The string is still in place and holds down the mirror (always down). |

Have you tried opening it up? Mine is fine but I have opened it to clean and lubricate and its reasonably simple. The other 'usual suspect' is the bar that locks down the mirror on the left side as you look through the lens mount, this is connected to the shutter button and may need lubrication, try pushing it gently to the left and see if it releases the mirror, if it does then that is your problem- hopefully but then its a Zenit! -and anything can happen
Here is my 1960 Zenit-C

Cool lens that Helios.
Stuck mirror: I made it!
As I said the shutter was ok - only the mirror stuck. I must has happened during transport: a little part which holds the mirror spring was stuck. It was easy to reach from the front without disassembling the camera. One snap - mirror went up. Now everything is ok again.
This metal hook construction holds down the mirror and releases it with one mm movement. But moving it manually did not help.
There ends the little spring that is connected to the string that pulls down the mirror. It was stuck but was easy to set free. I touched the end of the spring with a tiny screwdriver and *plopp* the mirror was set free!
Is anyone interested in that tiny cam? Shall offer it?
